Stayed there and loved it! Setting is unique with individual villas dotted around this lush tropical setting full of greenery and colorful flowers - like living in a botanical garden. Real quiet (except for song birds all day) and relaxing.

This unit is closest to the pool (where we often had it to ourselves), clubhouse with BBQs, tennis court and a putting green! Lots of walking paths in and around the resort which is a short walk to some great swimming and snorkeling beaches.

The villa is very well equipped with all kitchen supplies as you might expect, but also activity stuff like beach towels and chairs, coolers, boogie boards and even golf clubs (which we used at a nearby 9 hole golf course - Kukuiolono ? - for $9 !). Lots of privacy inside as each bedroom has own bathroom. We relaxed on the huge outdoor balcony (lanai) which stays shaded and cool all day.

We came home totally refreshed, and can't wait to go back.

Great central location. Very quiet and private. Beautiful grounds and tennis court. Pool is large enough to swim laps. Nice common area by the pool with large covered lanai, BBQ's, table tennis, indoor seating area, showers and sauna. Nicely laid out unit with full size washer and dryer, but it needs to be thoroughly cleaned (hence the 4/5 rating). Could also use a renovation but that was not a big deal for us. No ocean view, but from the lanai you can hear the waves crashing on the shore. Very comfortable king bed in the master suite and good quality linens and towels. Great rental for the price paid. We plan to return in the future.

Mold, wet carpets, rusted appliances, and horrendous smells. This place needs a major overhaul in terms of updating. My family was afraid to walk in each day due to the smell. The residents who live here loathe families, park in guest spots then run out to scold you for parking where you are designated because that's so and so and her spot. Children ARE NOT welcome at the pool, nor are their games or laughter. This Jim fellow is a rude, obnoxious man who raised his voice at my kids while playing a game, all the while obeying every rule stated and his own rules that he make up. Families look elsewhere because at the end of the day that evening swim or game of tag will get you scolded for enjoying the grounds of this property. Save your $175 and put $25 with it and find something more suitable, clean and not a place where you tip toe around a grumpy old man.

We spent 16 lovely days on Kauai at the Poipu Crater Resort, with Villa #27 being our home away from home. Firstly, we think there must be something wrong with anybody who has a bad time on Kauai. We had the best time! There is so much to see and do and the weather is never bad - even when it is. If you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes and it will change. The Villa quickly became our comfortable place and we were sad to leave. That being said, it did have some noteable flaws. It needs to be updated. The carpet should be removed and replaced with tile or laminate or hard wood. On the warm nights when the fans were in motion the carpet definately had a smell. Just old smelling, probably from retained moisture. The cleaning was good on the surface and seemed fine at first but looking a bit deeper it was lacking. All of the windows need to be washed to let in the lovely Hawaiian light. We cleaned the glass door to the lanai and the glass over the kitchen sink and it looked much better. The unit just needs to be upgraded a bit. New shower rods and recaulking the tubs etc would be a simple fix. The cleaners need to move the furnature when vacuuming . There were lots of dust bunnies hunkering behind the night tables by the beds etc. All that being said the grounds are so beautiful and well kept and the crater is quiet. We loved the doves who started cooing at first light and all of the flowers spoke of paradise. The pool area was immaculate and we used the barbeques many time over our 16 day stay. The washer and dryer, food garberater and the ice dispenser on the fridge were all well used by us. There were a number of families staying at the same time as us, with children ranging in age from 2 years to teens. There was a feeling at times that these children were not appreciated around the pool area. We had a four year old with us and he was a very good boy. He loved going to the pool with his Papa and his Daddy but it was hard to tell him to use his quiet voice all the time. Because of this we avoided the pool with him and just went to the beach instead. There he was allowed to express his glee unnoticed by most. We get that some of the permanent residents most likely find the constant turn over of renters and the noise of youngsters annoying. We loved the weather, the flowers, the chickens and other birds. Villa 27 was our home while we were in Kauai and we were very comfortable there. The bottle of wine in the fridge when we arrived was lovely and the games and puzzles we found in one of the closets were used during our stay. We appreciated the beach gear and the cooler which we also used quite a bit. We would definately come and stay again. Price wise it fit us. The walk to the beach was easy and enjoyable. We walked a lot and only used our car for longer excursions or if we needed to bring extra things to the beach. It would be nice to see just a bit of updating to this unit.

We gave this two stars because the complex is decent, but this unit was a big "yuck". The furniture, the carpet, the appliances are old and need to be replaced. The refrigerator is all rusty. I think the washer and dryer are newer. The place is not inviting or comfortable at all. Now for the good stuff; it has beach stuff (boogie boards, fins, umbrella), and the kitchen was equipped with all the small appliances you need. Could use some more and better flatware. It is fairly easy walking to Poipu Beach Park, and the restaurant there. But until this unit is updated I would stay away. There were no instructions left for things like accessing the wi-fi, where to put trash or recycling, etc.
