If you are on a romantic getaway this is where you want to stay. The place is very good, the food as well and the service is outstanding. There is nothing to complain about at this place.

We had a 'garden view' room. I would not take that again as the garden is more or less not exsisting.

We have travelled extensively world wide for 35 years staying in backpackers to 5 star hotels and would rate this hotel the cleanest and best well maintained property yet. The cleaning staff should be highly commended for the wonderful job they do. I would also like to commend the valet service who never forgot your name and greeted you with wonderful smiles. The hotel is in a wonderful location and has great views of the beach.

We discovered KoaKea about 3 years ago when we were planning a trip to Poipu Beach area of Kauai. We actually went for the first time based on the excellent rating we got from tripadvisor. We just returned for the 3rd time and, if anything, they are even better. The facilities are beautiful, well maintained and impeccably clean! The location is fantastic! The staff is friendly and attentive. They learn your name and address you by name as you traverse the property. This trip we not only ate breakfast at their Red Salt Restaurant each day, we ate dinner there each evening. The food was absolutely amazing! We think this is the best hotel and best restaurant on Kauai.

This is a terrific boutique hotel/resort. Staff members are very attentive and they remember you and call you by name. Oceanview rooms are just a few yards from the edge of the beach. Property is extremely well maintained and doesn't show any wear. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. The bathroom is large and the shower area is huge with dual shower heads and a seating area, all done in marble. The resort is quiet and we didn't see many children on the property - feels as if this resort caters to couples which is perfect for us. The food and service at the Red Salt restaurant was spectacular and no more expensive than some of the other high end restaurants on the island, i.e., Beach House and Roy's.

Room Tip: Hotel has three floors - request either 2nd or 3rd floor so there will be no foot traffic passing by your lanai. If you are going to pay for full oceanview rooms, rooms 280 (2nd floor) and 380 (3rd floor) are at the end of the corridor (on one side of the property facing the ocean) and experiences no hallway traffic other than the housekeeping staff. Also. the entrance door to the floor is at the opposite end so you don't hear any doors opening and closing.

Koa Kea is the best hotel on Kauai, hands down. Right on the water, and small enough that the hotel feels intimate and closed off from the rest of the world. We stayed here for five days and toured the Grand Hyatt and the St. Regis on the North end of the island. Both had nice parts, but neither hotel has rooms on the water, and there is a Disneyland vibe to them both. Koa Kea staff were attentive, and the package we got gave us breakfast every morning, and the hotel allowed us to use the credit to have in-room dining on our balcony. Valets were nice, concierge was helpful and the grounds were great. The only drawback- the gift shop is not great. Other than sodas and a few snacks, there really isn't much there to buy as souvenirs for people or to munch on. You have to drive into the nearby village to find a general store. Otherwise, I highly recommend, if you want to be able to hear waves crashing while you sleep!

Room Tip: If you want an ocean view, get the "oceanfront" suite. The ocena view rooms have a view, but you probably have to stick your neck out to see it. Splurge and get a suite on the 2nd or 3rd floor, and you have a living room lanai and a bedroom lanai.
