Not a lush resort property but does the job for the price. I wouldn't spend more than $135/night on this property. If you can get a better rate or similar rate at a better property, stay there. A bit dated though has many amenities.

Room Tip: Always request a "free upgrade". Never hurts to ask

This is an excellent hotel with all the amenities right on the ocean. It is centrally located close to the airport and both the North and South sides of the island. Very clean with a great poolside and bar. We looked at other hotels before booking this one and couldn't be more pleased with our decision to stay here.

Aloha Steve K!

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent experience at the Courtyard Marriott! I agree that our central location is great for exploring both the North and South shores of Kauai without wasting too much time in the car! That is part of the reason I love living in Kapaa! Mahalo for choosing to stay with us during your tropical vacation!

Mahalo!

Just back from a week at the Courtyard at Coconut Beach! Wonderful resort from the people to the food to the entertainment. We cannot say enough good about this place. The 4th floor room faced the pool area but also the ocean. Very quiet. Yes, there are roosters but we are from Florida so we were on a different time-zone anyhow. Loved the morning Hawaiian ceremony, the keke hula show and the Luau (held on the grounds). Carrie at the activities desk was great. The inventive food such as kimchee pork belly was super. Longs across the street and McDonalds within walking distance. Beach is rough due to coral but pretty to watch from beach chair. Do not swim. We miss this resort already and will pass it along to others. BTW the activities charge is worth it for pool, towels, and entertainment. Only thing we were missing was a microwave (had mini fridge). Internet as good as many other areas where we have traveled. Cannot say enough good. Well worth the price paid for the exec king room!

Room Tip: Executive ocean view - 4th floor

Aloha Travelsome3281,

I am happy to hear that you celebrated your birthday at our resort! It also sounds like you were able to enjoy many of our activities and amenities we offer. The Luau is a new feature at the hotel that we are very proud of and hope many people will enjoy seeing. Hopefully, you will visit us again in the future for another special occasion!

We stayed 4 nights in October 2015. This was the perfect end to our stay in Kauai. The customer service at check in was quick and friendly. Once we figured out that we could walk through the courtyard and up the stairs, it was much easier to get to our room at the far corner. Although the waves are rough, there is an area where you can walk in to the water to cool off and many people took advantage of that. We used the lounge chairs and opted to have them on the grass rather than the sand. Then we would get in the pool to cool down. It was relaxing and the sunrise/sunsets were amazing. We went to the bar every day and had our Mai Tais, which are really well made. They were not the cheap version. You can now get them at any time from the bar. Appetizers are 1/2 price from 3-6 so we ordered several each day for dinner. The coconut shrimp is delectable as well as the beach fries and the skewers. Well worth the price if you want to stay in the hotel for dinner. CVS/Longs is across the parking lot and prices are really good. Get your Macadamia Nuts here! Every type of restaurant is close by, but traffic does get heavy at rush hour. The hotel is located near several hiking and waterfall spots. I would definitely recommend this hotel for it's location, customer service and level of relaxation!

Cosy, low level hotel that easily feels like a home away from home. Grounds are beautiful and well kept. Hotel design has a very Hawaiian feel to it and blends in with the environment nicely. Especially the courtyard is very nice, with lush vegetation and huge hammocks. The roosters are great for natural pest control and make the place feel very homy. The colors of the building and rooms are well chosen. Location could simply not be better, very conveniently situated with amazing beach and ocean views. The huge white plastic Luau tent outside is rather unsightly though. Would not fancy a room facing the tent!

Staff everywhere is working very hard to maintain the property as well as to accommodate the guests and make them feel appreciated and welcome. Only exception is the bar, where not only the bartender lady was pathologically grumpy and visibly not pleased with the request to make personal recipes with local vodka - drinks are even more expensive than at the most luxurious hotels on the island! - and on another occasion she even forgot the entire order of a simple glass of wine while continuously taking new orders for the 'free' Mai Tais. A reminder after ten minutes still didn't result in the wine being served.

Noise level in room from A/C and in some rooms from apparently heavily dated refrigerators quite unacceptable - had to turn off A/C at night to get some rest. System in dire need of update and cleaning. Throughout hotel in several places heavy noise from A/C units and ice machines, some rooms and hallways more than others. Place clearly needs a general update.

Bed was extremely comfortable. One of the best ever. Room was very large but a bit plain, could use some decoration and art here and there, and more usable furniture that actually fits in the room. Bathroom had some maintenance issues.

Resort fee I.M.O. doesn't make sense. It's not a resort, and not everybody drinks the Mai Tais that are included, plus parking is open to everyone, so why make guests pay when everyone else can park for free... It's just a hidden way of charging more for the rooms than is specified on the website and the bill.

Main issue with this hotel is the fact that they put a hold on your credit card for the entire amount of your stay, and then at the end of the stay charge the final amount AGAIN, without taking into account that they already have a hold in place. The hold is then NOT released upon check-out as promised, but stays in place for 21 days (!!). They will tell you that it has been released the moment you checked out, but what the nice ladies at the front desk and in the office don't know is that the hotel's main administration, probably located elsewhere, does NOT ACTUALLY let your bank know that the hold on your credit card can be released, and so it remains in place for the maximum duration, meaning you can't use your CC for that amount. Most other hotels use the hold towards the final amount to be payed so it does not come off your CC limit twice, but not at this Marriott. When charging several thousands of dollars, as was the case, it can be a seriously annoying and problematic issue which can be avoided by using the hold towards the final payment and not book the final payment as an entirely new and separate charge. First hotel ever with this issue!

Unless they change this policy to a more decent one like every other normal hotel, I will most likely not stay here again.

Room Tip: Ocean front exec. room superb view. Would at all cost avoid room facing luau tent or parking lot. Unsightly and very noisy.

Aloha Finikas11,

Thank you for taking the time and sharing some of the great features the Courtyard by Marriott has to offer and for sharing about our great staff and comfortable beds. We take pride in assuring our guest are comfortable and taken care of during their stay. I humbly apologize that one of our staff members was not so accommodating in this area. Please know I have brought this to our Director of Food and Beverages attention, for this will be a great training opportunity to ensure great customer service moving forward. I have also shared your feedback with our Engineering department and Management team to further look into the concerns you have shared. I truly hope that one day we will have an opportunity to serve you again.
