My husband and I just returned from Kauai. We booked a one bedroom at Kapa'a Shores Resort through Diamond Resorts. This is not a Diamond Resort but this resort is contracted through Diamond. The Diamond Resort in Poipu was full. After I booked the trip I started reading all the bad comments and was worried about what we were going to get. I need to start learning that people like to complain about petty things and most things that was stated were so awful I didn’t find it to be so.
It is true there is no A/C or elevator, we never really needed an A/C the open windows and ceiling fans were adequate with the trade winds blowing off the ocean most of the time. Several nights we had to close the window because it got too cool. As long as you open the windows first thing in the morning or leave them open with the fans going the room stays cool.
We were on the second floor, one flight of stairs was no big deal, only had to take luggage up the stairs once and taking the stairs was good exercise. We had a terrific view of the ocean, the room was clean, well-stocked kitchen. Yes, there was some of the furniture and other things that needed some repair but that is the way it is with all the people "living" there and the salt air. People aren't always too careful with things that aren't their own. The things that needed repair wasn't anything that would wreck your vacation. The bedroom in the one bedroom units is on the parking lot side of the resort, there was some noise from the road in front of the resort but not enough to keep you awake even with the windows open. The one thing I will agree on is the mattress in the bedroom was very firm, we slept in the bedroom the first night but we couldn't sleep on that mattress another night. We found the Murphy bed in the living room very comfortable and I loved being lulled to sleep with the sounds of the ocean with the sliding door open. We left windows open and never had any noise that kept us awake. Our room over looked the pool and bar-b-ques and never had problems with noise. People used the bar-b-ques and talked but that was during daylight hours and anyone in the pool later in the evening was quiet. We never heard anything from neighbors on either side or upstairs over us. The worst noise we had was the wind whistling around the buildings. We don’t go places to sit in the room., we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room, we were out sight seeing or on the beach. There was a really nice beach within 5 minutes of the resort. It would have been nice to have a beach right out side the resort but we made it work. We went to several different beaches in Poipu, Princeville and Kapa’a areas and had a great time. I loved that the resort was so centralized to the north and south ends of the island. Kapa’a Shores was nothing fancy like the resort Diamond Resort International has in Poipu but it worked just fine for us. If our Diamond Resort isn’t available in the future and we want to return to Kauai I would go back to Kapa’a Shores Resort. All the employees were very helpful too from where to go to dinner to sight seeing.
