We enjoyed our two night stay with Art & Orchids. Here are some of the things about the place that made it special:
- The room was spacious, clean and well provisioned. A little balcony and lots of windows made it bright and airy.
- Markie, our hostess was gracious, helpful with information, and a great cook - the scrambled eggs for breakfast were delish - and she's a master gardener!
- The tropical forest setting was a treat - lots of beautiful plants and flowers to photograph, and the jungle sounds in the evening were exotic and unlike anything you'd hear in a regular garden.
- The proximity to a couple of natural wonders - the Kapaho Tide Pools and the Kalapana lava flows - made it an ideal choice to use as a base for exploring what Puna has to offer.
- Art & Orchids is only a few miles from Pahoa village which has an eclectic mix of shops and services and a variety of dining options. We chose to have dinner at Kaleo's, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Our 5 days at Arts and Orchids gave us the nicest of Hawaii experiences. Delicious hot breakfasts and extremely helpful input from our friendly hosts each morning ...a great way to start each day's adventure. This location was tucked away in its natural setting and at the same time was perfect jumping-off point for us to easily reach all parts of the island. We thoroughly enjoyed our rooms, which were comfortable in every way and unique, with beautiful interesting furnishings and handcrafted artistic features.

Hosts: friendly and very enthusiastic about our trips, our stay, interests.
Location: perfect for Hilo, jaunts to Pahoa for dinner, the volcano. Very quiet. Billions and billions of stars seen from the hot tub.
Value: much better than others for the money. For instance, excellent breakfast included, served with a smile.

Leg 2 of our Hawaii trip. Definitely was a memorable one thanks to Art & Orchids B&B.

We got in fairly late as we came from Kona side. We took a lot more extra time stopping at various points.

Exhausted, we found our room (Rainbow room) quaint and pleasant. Big room, walk in closet and quaint bathroom beside the common living area with kitchenette, refrigerator for guest use.

You are definitely in the middle of nature. Set in the middle, it was practical for our trip calendar which consisted of the surrounding areas of Keaau. Hilo, Volcano, Pahoa, etc was within close proximity and took no longer than 20-30 minutes to arrive.
They were very accomodating! Thanks again!

The breakfast buffet was excellent and fresh. There was enough for everyone.

Markie was very hospitalable to help guide the days planned (Thanks for the Richardson tip!).

There is sunscreen, aloe vera, snorkeling, bath towels, bath mats also available for guest use. Which was very convinient.

We definitely would keep this B&B in mind on our next trip to the Big Island.

Day 1 - Falls galore.
Rainbow, Akaka, Pe'e Pe'e & Boiling Pots.
Richardson Park where we saw a giant green turtle coming to bay to rest! What an amazing site! Some of the locals were also spear fishing!

Day 2 - Volcano Park.
Took about 30 minutes to get to. We were there until 8pm to glare at the luminous Lava glow ! The brightest in over 10 years!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great !

Great welcome! Beautiful, rustic, beds very confortable, food was excellemt - homemade fruit salad, from their garden, breads, granolas, plentiful and delicious! Markie is so helpful in choosing your sites to see! Site is just beautiful! Central, you can see black sand beaches, volcano, raifnorests, all while staying there!

We felt like staying with family! We would definitely recommend... A bit far to visit frequently for us but we'd go back if we could Thank you!!!
