An older, but well kept-up property on Hilo's Banyan Road where several hotels are located. It's near the airport and there are great parks and paths to walk along just outside the hotel. The pool is not fancy, but it's right on the shore to Hilo Bay. Free wifi is in the lobby (to avoid the $10/day charge to get it in your room!). Great cell coverage there is an alternative. Food in the restaurant was a bit spendy, but there is a minimart located on site and there's other relatively-cheap food options available within a short walk. It was only about a 10% extra cost for the oceanview room and it's well worth it. The morning view of Mauna Loa and Hilo Bay was great.

Room tip: get an oceanview room on an upper floor for great morning views, often of rainbows.

More than happy with our choice to stay here. The rooms are slightly bland and a bit dated but comfortable, roomy, and our room had a lovely view of the harbour. Excellent access to town and to the airport.

This hotel was built in the 30s but it has a great location near a city park right on the ocean. It's near downtown, restaurants, beautiful black sand beaches. Pool is old but clean. Rooms are small but they have decks that overlook ocean and no free internet, except in lobby. Restaurants are terrible and very expensive.

Room tip: Try to get a room higher up where you can see more of ocean

Lovely recently refurbished hotel in beautiful location with easy access into Hilo. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent food and cocktails from both bar and restaurant, though preferred selection on A la carte breakfast menu. Free wifi in lobby, bar and restaurant

Room tip: Upper floor Ocean view

I stayed at this hotel for a wedding and it was fantastic. The room I stayed in was a decent size and I was especially impressed with the panoramic view from the balcony from an 'Ocean View' room. A great viewpoint of the ocean as far as the eye can see, the scenic Coconut Island and the Hilo coastline with Mauna Loa towering in the distance.

The hotel and its grounds are very nice, surrounded by very old trees that create beautiful shadows, lines and frames that photographers would love. The coastline at the front of the hotel is a great stroll and only a few more steps away from Coconut Island which is a great place for a bbq or a lay around in the sun. The hotel lobby bar gets busy on Fridays and Saturday nights with a live band which is great as there aren't many 'busy bars' in Hilo that I know of and it attracts a good balance of tourists and locals.

Room tip: Any ocean view room and you won't regret it
