I absolutely loved Mel's place and would definitely stay there again. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was great and I enjoyed cooking there. I even got to use the desk for some work I had to do. Mel was so friendly and prepared breakfast every day he was there. The location is wonderful if you love North Kohala, but know that It is quite a drive to Kona and even further from Volcano, so take that into account if you want to travel to these places frequently. On the other hand, North Kohala is special, as is swimming in Mahukona, the nearby villages of Hawi and Kapaau are easy-going, and both South Kohala with its beaches and the Hamakua coast are easily reached. The view of Maui is also fabulous on a clear day. Recommended!
