The rooms are outdated and dirty. I was here on a sled trip and Linda in the bar was rude and so slow you could lose your buzz. The resturant was fast and food was fine. We went to use the getto hot tub and it was shut down, it didn't the inspection that day......ish. We asked a house keeper when it would be open and he told us to go 1 mile down the road to the Elk View and use that one, it was 10 times nicer than ours. The hotel is 10 times nicer too. This one should be burnt down, Cooke City style....

I must say you are traveling to the wilderness not the Ritz, yes there will be flies, bugs, bears and vermon but best of all there is a wonderful view. As for the Lodge it is rustic and the fact that it is on Forest Service ground they are not allowed to disturbe the land like grading the roads. This lodge has no phone's in the rooms because they don't work on the mountain when you drive up do you see lines no because the forest service does not allow. No your cell phone will never work there because of the mountains (sorry for your bad luck) This is one of the most beautiful places you will ever visit, no the lodge is not perfect but getting people to work miles from civilzation is difficult so they don't always get the best help in the world but they do the best they can with what they have to work with.

We travel all over Wyoming, staying both in towns and in more isolated lodges. Bear Lodge Resort is in a great location for soaking up the ancient rocks of the Big Horns. On our recent 5-night trip, this was our most expensive room, yet it was my least favorite. Besides the cozy bar (I don't drink) with a fireplace, nothing else about this "lodge" was inviting - no lobby, no atmosphere - just a run-down, aging facility with no attention to detail. (For instance, a rolled-up hose that guests have to side-step outside,
non-working coffee-maker in our room, curtains that remain off of their drapery hooks, dim room lighting)
I do give them credit for having an elevator. Our dinner food was plentiful and better than I expected. With only 3 diners, service was almost 1:1!

We were on a 9 day road trip through Wyoming and Montana and stopped at the Bear Lodge Resort. We were going to camp in their RV "Park" but one look at the rutted, uneven, junk surrounded site and we drove onto the beautiful public campground at Sibley Lake. Deciding to give it another try, we went for dinner at the restaurant. As others have said, service was incredibly slow, the clerk at the cash register was yelling at someone on the phone, food was average, and we spent most of our dinner trying to keep all of the flies from landing on our food. When I discovered a dead fly in the bottom of my wine glass, the managers response was "oh well". Our recommendation, a bologna sandwich out of the picnic cooler has this place beat by a mile.

First off, I've read some of the negative reviews and I'm scratching my head as I've stayed here 3 times, years apart and have had a great experience every time. Remember, you are staying at an old rustic lodge on top of the Bighorn Mountains, not the Ritz in NYC!! Part of why I enjoy this place is the rustic atmosphere. Yes, there are times when it's busy service may be a little slow but very acceptable. With that being said, my rooms have always been clean. The food has been great. The scenery on the way to and the surrounding area is second to none. I would recommend staying here to anyone except for high maintenance people :)
