This is the real deal--a real "mom and pop" motel in cowboy country. Plenty of parking for your horse and hay trailers, and there's room too for an 18 wheeler, if you're looking for a good night's sleep.

We spent a couple of nights last week in #10. Nothing fancy, but it was clean and comfortable, and the room looked freshly painted. Around back there's a horse corral, and past that there's an impressive canyon containing the Shoshone River. Nice.

We didn't hear any music, and there were no pony rides while we were there, but we can confirm that the owners and staff were friendly and helpful and fun to be around. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Great views from the upper floor

My wife & I stayed at this motel on our way to Yellowstone and then again on the way out. The room was very comfortable and clean. The bed was very comfortable.
Very close to the Buffalo Bill Museum and good restaurants.
Jim, the proprietor was very friendly and helpful in planning our tours and suggesting good places to eat.
An added bonus was the live piano player playing on the porch.

My daughter and I are staying here the night after being in Yellowstone. Super cute motel. Great views. Good beds. Very nice desk people. Would stay here again. I would recommend this to anyone before staying overnight in Yellowstone park itself. In Yellowstone it’s very expensive and they don’t have Wi-Fi’s or TVs.

Stayed at Big Bear Motel for 6 nights. Had a second floor room. Comfortable bed & pillows. Room decor was a little outdated, but room was clean. Small refrigerator and microwave. Live music until 9pm, but pretty quiet after that. Very friendly staff. We are out of our room before the sun comes up and back at dark, so we did not use any of the extra amenities and don't need anything fancy. Hotel was a good place to stay for the price.

This was a recommendation from a friend who stayed there several times and I'm glad we took their advice. This was our first time to Wyoming and being from Virginia we really wanted to be immersed in the west. The Big Bear Motel added to the experience and our future visits (and I hope there are many) will include this motel as our go to place to stay. This is not a chain hotel. This is a family owned, one of a kind motel that makes you feel part of Wyoming. There are many things that we loved about this motel. I will try not to ramble. What we liked: 1) Rustic 2 story buildings in a U shape around a courtyard so rooms are not in an interior hallway. Doors face outside. 2) Parking right in front of your room on first floor or outdoor steps up to second floor. Either way easy parking and in and out of rooms. 3) East side buildings where we stayed had a beautiful view of the mountains. Shoshone River is directly behind the property but too far to worry about adventurous kids. 4) rooms were large and beds were comfortable. Bathrooms nice. 5) housekeeping friendly and eager to please. Frankly we were not in our room much during day so they were able to make bed and replace towels without us there. 6) Lots of great places nearby to eat. Our Place across the street-great breakfast, Bubbas just back towards town great everything 7) Every night you got to see a miniature pony in a golf cart and take a ride around the courtyard on a big, gentle horse 8) Old Trail Town is a great Old West town to visit and is within walking distance 9) Nightly entertainment outside weather permitting. While we were there last week of September a band set up outside the office and played various music. When I say band one night was 1 guy with a keyboard another night 2 or 3 guys. We enjoyed the music and did not interfere with a good nights sleep. 10) You're on the western edge of town so no traffic problems but everything you want within 5 to 10 minute drive. 11) real keys to room so you don't have to worry about your cell phone ruining the coded key card. Forget the chain hotels. If you're in Wyoming experience the local color and stay at Big Bear. I hope this helps.

Room Tip: For views of mountains stay on 2nd floor east side. We were in room 208 and loved it.
