The hotel is a perfect combination of vintage and comfort - the rooms had everything you would want and still looked like you walked into the old west. Charming, clean, historic, interesting, comfortable -- really tough to beat. I am sorry we were only staying one night.

When you walk into the lobby chock full of antiques and historic photographs (even a box of old hats to try on), you know this is not a chain experience. There is no elevator and all the rooms are on the 2nd floor, but the main stairway is wide and not steep. Be sure and explore the upstairs, there is a library and sitting rooms and two rooms with tea and coffee pots. The floors are a mix of carpeting and bare wood and quite creaky!

We stayed in the lovely Clear Creek suite with a six poster king size bed, claw foot tub, and the sound of the creek running outside the windows. Some of the rooms not in use had braided cords across the open doorway, so you can peek inside. All of the rooms and even the hallways are full of antique odds and ends.

If you are there in a Thursday evening, there is a bluegrass jam going on in the bar with pretty talented locals and it fills up early, so grab a seat well before it starts at 7 pm. The Virginian restaurant is part of this same property, a higher end type eatery. Our food was excellent and the service was very good, quite attentive and professional. If you're party is only two, one small table is in an old bank vault!

A living museum and a cozy, fun place to stay in a lovely town on Clear Creek. I enjoyed President Hoover's suite, and looked at the other historic rooms. Butch Cassidy, Teddy Roosevelt, and Calamity Jane stayed here. If the Old West appeals to you, this is the right place to stay. 23 bullet holes in the slaoon where I had a delicious ribeye steak. Office of Sheriff Longmire (of Craig Johnston's mystery series) just down the street,

The hotel and saloon are great to walk through and investigate - real old time (1880's) feeling. We were there on a Sunday and there were pickup blue grass musicians playing. We came back in the evening and ate there. Food was good and waitress was fantastic. A western group was playing and they were good. Room to dance too.

Great place to stay, full of history. We stayed in the Herbert Hover Suite and it was really nice. We were able to walk around the whole hotel and see some of the other rooms. They are all name after someone who stayed there years ago.
