Myself and a group of friends were staying at the Chula Vista in Wisconsin Dells for a weekend convention taking place at the same hotel. I have to say that our experience in the Chula Vista Resort was the worst experience we've ever had staying at a hotel. Allow me to explain. For starters, we had booked a two-bedroom suite for the weekend. When we arrived to the room, we found that the master bathroom was still dirty with plastic on the floor and hair in the shower. We had to call room service back so they could clean it again. Our room had a fridge in it, and we put all our food in it when we arrived and then went out for dinner. We were gone about 2-3 hours and returned to find that the fridge had broken. Some of our food had gone bad and had to be thrown away. We called maintenance and the man who showed up was extremely rude and condescending. He blamed us for the fridge being broken because he said we had been opening it too much even though we had been out of the room for a few hours. He explained to us how the fridge worked (and what he explained was nonsense). He said that we should have brought coolers to keep our stuff in. We didn't bring coolers because we paid extra for a room with a fridge so that we WOULDN'T HAVE to bring coolers. We told the man that he was being rude and he got angry with us and left. We contacted the front desk and were moved to a new room. The new room had a working fridge, but the bathroom door didn't close properly. One night while cooking, two men came to the door and told us the fire alarm had done off. Even though it didn't and we heard nothing. When we informed the men that the fire alarm in our room never went off, one said that was a good thing and left. We asked for extra towels one day and they were left in a heap outside the wrong room. We spent all weekend attempting to contact a manager about a refund but the front desk kept saying that there was no manager on site and that they would call us back in an hour. Every time they said they would call us back, they didn't. It took two days before we finally spoke to a manager who could only offer a 20% refund on our total stay. A 20% refund for broken refrigerators, broken fire alarms, rude maintenance and managerial staff, and broken doors does not seem fair. The experience ruined our entire weekend and I urge anybody who is reading this to never stay at this hotel. I will be informing everyone I know not to stay at this hotel. Thank you for your time while reading this review.

Myself and a few friends went to stay at the Chula Vista for a convention named No Brand Con (which itself was fantastic). We arrived to our room to find the floor dirty, the master bathroom littered with bits of plastic and the master bathroom's shower full of a previous tenants hair. We also walked in on the cleaning staff huddled around the fridge, they left without saying much so we loaded up the fridge with our items and mostly forgot about it. That is until we arrived back after hitting the dells for a bit to find our food and drink doused with water. We also found several of our perishables at unsafe temps and had to toss them out.

So with this in mind, we called up the front desk and they sent a repairman (and his supervisor) to repair the fridge. At this point they very condescendingly explain how fridges work, and then blame us for "Opening up the fridge so damn much" (even though we were not even in the room). Things got heated as we tried to explain that fact (having things explained to them seemed to push some buttons for the supervisor) and he stormed out of the room.

We proceeded to call down to guest services who put us in another room (with a broken bathroom door and apparently a non functioning fire alarm, though guest services couldn't have known at the time) and we were told that a manager would call us back. Half an hour passed without a word so I went to the front desk and was told that the manager had left and would reach out to us in the morning.

The morning comes around without a word, so we go down to the front desk and were told that the manager who was supposed to talk to us, Brandy, is not in currently but will be in at around 12-1. We come back from lunch without a word so we go down at 2 pm and are told that Brandy will not be in the entire weekend, and the only manager on staff currently is busy but will call us back.

You can guess how this went.

3:30 pm rolls around and we head down to talk to the manager who is no where to be seen. We called corporate at this point and get redirected to guest services, who we are literally standing in front of. We demand that we be called or we will come back down and not move until we are talked to.

6:30 PM rolls around and we are finally called by the manager on duty who informs us that the only person that will do anything for us is the senior manager, who (shocker) isn't there. We are told he will contact us in the morning.

We get woken up bright and early at 8:00 am by the manager calling. We don't get to the phone fast enough to answer but I get dressed and walk down to talk to him. I get taken into his office where the senior manager Richard and his assistant huddle around me and start off offering me an insulting 10% off only the first night we stayed. I decline, and get offered 15%. After ruining our trip and forcing us to miss out on our convention (the entire point of the trip) they say policy dictates they can only allow for a 50% refund on the first night. I give up and walk out, deciding to just contact the bank and let them deal with disputing the charges for our stay.

Last second addition: We talked to the convention staff, who also had issues with the Supervisor attempting to pass of broken amenities as working ones (the AC in the vendor room wasn't working and they were told to their sweaty, tired faces that it was fine.) The convention staff was awesome all around and to have their convention overshadowed by this poor location is a shame.

Over all this was by far the worst experience I've had at a hotel, which is saying something. It is poorly cleaned, poorly managed and just in general a poor experience for anyone looking to actually enjoy themselves on vacation. Avoid at all costs.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel.

Maintence blammed us for constantly going in and out of the fridge. Very rude took all weekend to get a hold of a manage. asked for extra towels they were left outside the room in a big garbage type bag with no knock on the door to let us know.

This is a huge property. We were there for a convention and found it to be a good place for the many things going on over the weekend.
Our room was in the north tower facing the river. It was beautiful and peaceful.
The room itself was pretty average but larger than most in the living area, was smaller than most in the bathroom area. It was clean but we found some things broken but nothing major. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet.
Housekeeping did not come in to remove trash or replace towels. This was disappointing. Also, they offer liquid soap dispensers and nothing else (no shampoo, bar soap, etc). I was glad I had brought everything I needed.
The property offers many attractions but we did not check them out.
The biggest issue was the lack of parking. Between our convention, soccer teams, and other guests, they needed about three times more spaces. We had arrived early on Friday, but due to the lack of parking, we felt that we couldn’t risk leaving the property during our stay, until we were making our final departure. We would have liked to have had the chance to check out the Dells a little bit but it wasn’t worth the risk of losing our parking spot.
We attempted to eat at The Kilbourn grill be they didn’t want to seat us because it was between breakfast and lunch. We would have waited at a table for 10 minutes until lunch was available but they were not open to that option (despite the fact that many tables were available). We just ate snacks that we had brought with us instead, up in our room.
We had dinner at Kaminski’s Chophouse and it was good. Very expensive but at least it was good and the staff was friendly and helpful.
If you have kids it might be worth it with all of the entertainment options. Otherwise it’s pricey but not luxurious. The river view and walk was the one thing that was pretty fabulous.

Thank you for your feedback. Chula Vista Resort's location along the Wisconsin River truly offers great views and we are so glad you were able to experience that! Our goal is to provide our guests with a comfortable stay, and we are sorry that we fell short of that. We hope you will return at some point so we can provide you with the hospitality and service as fabulous as our river view.
