We recently spent a week at Ferns with 4 adults, 2 dogs and a baby. The setting is absolutely lovely and unspoiled. The lake was crystal clear which made it a joy to swim in. Everyone, especially the dogs, loved it! The cabin, although a bit rustic, was immaculate. The kitchen was well stocked with all necessities for cooking. All towels, bedding, cleaning products and grill were provided. There was a fire pit with wood and plenty seating. This more than made up for no T.V! Tracey and Lynn were perfect hosts and took care of all our needs. If it's peace and quiet in nature you're seeking, this is the place for you!
This is a long overdue review. We rented this cabin for a week for our family of 6 (3 adults, 3 children). Our friends (family of 4) rented a 2nd cabin. This is not the Hilton or Waldorf. Great, thats out of the way. Now I'll tell what this place is. It's a wonderful hidden gem, on a beautiful lake in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. This was our first trip to the area and exactly what we were looking for. The cabins are furnished with comfortable beds in each room and a futon and coffee table in the living area. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed including kitchenware, cleaning supplies, linens, etc. (though we didnt realize it and brought our own). The bathroom had a heater (great for those cold nights) and a shower/bath. The kitchen has a full size fridge, sink and electric range/oven and picnic style table and benches. The floors are carpeted. Everything you need plus there's a fire pit right outside. Plenty of split firewood available by each cabin. We made a campfire every night and cooked dinner under the stars by the lakeside. The view is to die for. We got to lay on the pier and watch a meteor shower two nights in a row! There is no t/v and wifi is very limited (for us that was a big plus!). There is a nice nature trail starting right on the property. The lake is beautiful. We use the (complimentary) kayaks, canoes and paddle craft every day. There is a pontoon available for rent. The beach area is wonderful as it is very shallow (2-3' I believe) for about 100' . So not only is it a safe place for (supervised) play but it stays warm (the lake was otherwise cooold!). The family that owns and runs the place is great! They helped us with every detail and request both inhouse and excursion planning. The grounds are kept pristine. There is an indoor play room to let the kids have fun on rainy days. The town of Boulder Junction is a few minutes by car or you can even walk into town. There is plenty to do and explore in the area - fish, bike, antique, hike or nothing at all!. We would recommend this place without reservation to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful getaway to relax and spend time in nature.
