A group of us recently went to Oliverios for dinner. On a Wednesday evening in July, it was pretty deserted. We had a very good waiter who was attentive to our needs. I think the thing we enjoyed the most were the appetizers we ordered. We tried the crab balls (crab stuffing rolled in angel hair pasta and deep fried served with honey mustard sauce, the bruschetta (topped in portabella mushrooms) and fried zucchini. They were all excellent . The fried zucchini was great for sharing and could have almost been a dinner itself – it was great and I will probably go back just for that.
We tried a number of different entrees. The seafood fettuccini alfredo ($22) and salmon ($19) were good. The special of the evening, shrimp scampi, was doused a bit in peppers. They also serve their meals with parmesan garlic bread sticks and have gluten free pasta and whole wheat pasta available upon request.
There are a number of really good Italian restaurants in the area and it depends on specifically what you want to order as to where you go. Oliverio’s niche seems to be specializing in more of the higher end seafood and chicken with pasta options. If I wanted spaghetti and meatballs or lasagna, this is not the first place I would choose - though I used to love their vegetable lasagna that is no longer on the menu. It is also not the first local place I would pick for a steak entrée.
That said, they have an elegant little restaurant that also offers the steaks, pizza, hoagies, and pasta (at pricier versions) which does help accommodate a diverse group. They also accommodate take out orders at their bar. Oliverio's is open for lunch on weekdays, but not weekends when they open at 4 pm. Their luncheon menu is an abbreviated version of the dinner menu with additional sandwich options which works for business lunches.
