Highlawn was quite pleasant for us to stay at for one night. I've never seem so many floral patterns in my life - flowers on the wallpaper, framed pictures, bedspreads, everywhere. There are also three or more cats guarding the Highlawn premises both indoors and outdoors. Regarding the decor, we enjoy old things, so Highlawn Inn suited us fine. The breakfast was very nicely created and presented. Upon arrival, there was no one around when we picked our key by agreement in the late afternoon, but that didn't bother us either. I think one should limit expectations around Berkeley Springs in general. Our stay at Highlawn was certainly very nice. The room was large, the jacuzzi tub was kind of a kick, and the property is located in a very quiet residential neighborhood. We'd consider coming back!

Room tip: Stayed in the Algernon Room on the second floor - spacious and nice views from there.

Tried to make a reservation and waited for confirmation which never came. I contacted the Inn and was told the reservation for 2 nights was rejected because they had a 3 night minimum and you had to have dinner there. Because of the untimely response all the other area inns/motels were booked. If that their business practice that is fine but they need to take it out of their fine print and put it obviously on there website! We have never had a reservation rejected on a 2 night stay or a requirement to eat at the establishment. Good luck to Highlawn Inn.

We are sorry these folks were disappointed. Their reservation request was rejected with in a couple of hours, my guess is it went to their spam file and then they waited a week to find out if they had a reservation even though it says if no confirmation within 24 hours contact the Innkeepers. This reservation was for the Columbus Day Weekend and also the Apple Butter Festival Weekend in Berkeley Springs and this is the only weekend we require a 3 night minimum as well as a Saturday evening dinner reservation and this is in our "Guest Policies" section which the guest has to agree to get a reservation. This policy has worked well for us the past 25 years.

Berkeley Springs is America's "first spa town" and the Highlawn Inn is the perfect place to stay! Walking distance (just a couple of blocks) from main street and state park, its in the perfect location to enjoy the town. The Victorian house has spacious rooms, a wrap-around porch, and several friendly cats! To cap it off, breakfast was amazing. I highly recommend staying here if you are in town!

We stayed at Highlawn Inn for our anniversary April 22-24 – we’ve been several times and can’t wait to go back. We were in the Carriage House which is in a separate building from the main house (and what luxury!). We spent a lot of our time on the beautiful wrap around porch and enjoyed the resident cats who were so cute and friendly.

We had the good fortune to be there for one of the Silver Service dinners which gave us a chance to mingle with the other guests and enjoy more of Sandy’s amazing food – we knew we were in for a treat after previous dinners. Everyone was so gracious and charming and it made for a wonderful anniversary.

We have a friend who’s a nurse at the hospital up the street. Our only opportunity to visit with him was at breakfast when his shift was over. I certainly didn’t want to miss the delicious breakfast so we asked if it was possible to have him join us and we would pay for his meal. Sandy immediately agreed and was very warm and welcoming when he arrived, as she always is.

Sandy and the staff always go above and beyond, you definitely know you are not in a hotel when you stay there. Do yourself a favor and book a room now, you won’t regret it!

The Inn is in a wonderful location. You can walk to most downtown locations. We walked to the Bath House, and the State Park in town. I would like to let people know there is no air conditioning, but we opened a window and it was comfortable. Cats live there but are precious. Owner was so informative and a delight. Staff was very personable. I would stay there again!!!

Thank you for your kind words and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We do have A/C in all of our rooms and in most the A/C are in window units that are normally installed in mid April, so we apologize that the units had not been installed.
