Owner description: Travel back in time to when a night at the movies was still affordable and fun: this 300 seat Depression-era movie house features sofa seating (only 3) and a super tub of popcorn with real butter for $4. A real mom and pop theater. On the West Virginia Historic Theater Trail. In 2013, the Star went digital!

Reminds me of the Vilma theater in Baltimore, only ours had a balcony. First run films at cheap prices. Theater is clean. No running up and down the aisles. I do wish they had lids on the soda. Other than that, I have always had a pleasant experience. They do not serve snacks/drinks during the movie b/c I think they do not want people running back and forth creating a distraction.

Went to see Zootopia with my children during the matinee on a Sunday. Seats had holes in them. Bathroom was dirty. There were no lids for the cups for the fountain drinks. The lady that runs it told a family with 5 children to get out. She said they were being too loud and that the people around them were moving seats. This was a lie. I was sitting near them, the children were fine. The people next to me were taking pictures of the movie and they got to stay. Went to get popcorn fifteen minutes after the movie started. I was refused popcorn. Apparently you cant get popcorn after the movie has started. I will never go back. There are respectful ways to treat people and apparently the owners of this theater do not know how to treat people. Hope they can rely on the business of travelers because thats the only way they will stay in business.

Thousands of people buy popcorn at the Star before, after and during the movie. For 39 years the Star has received high marks from Health Dept. inspections. There are no holes in the seats and, in fact, the 67 year old vintage seats were just replaced. Policy at the Star has always been to guarantee the audience the opportunity to watch the film without disruption. When an individual or two are unable or unwilling to exercise control and make it impossible for the rest of the audience to enjoy the movie, the disruption must be and are removed. Threats that turn into lie-riddled rants are unacceptable and libelous.

Classic old theater with new movies and digital projection. Very reasonable price for admission. Only open on weekends with one film. Soon to replace seating!

Thanks for visiting the Star. By next weekend, our 67-year-old seats will be replaced by newer, wider ones. Come see us again and try them out.

Whenever we are in Berkeley Springs for the weekend, we go to the movies. They were playing Dirty Grampa and it was a racy hoot. The theater is a blast from the past - the way I went to the movies when I was a kid and the ticket price is great!

With what seems like original leather seats (that are quite narrow these days!), this theater is a taste of theaters from previous generations. Also a few couches! Can't beat the price ($4.50 for adults) and the popcorn is delicious. Owners are friendly. Great small-town feel.

Thanks for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed our treasure. You'll be happy to know that we're hoping to replace the seats early next year with some a little wider.
