First of all the wait, ridiculously long. Then more waiting for the food. My husband ordered the smoked salmon omelet and you needed a magnifying glass to find the salmon. The waitress did bring him a little bowl with maybe an extra tablespoon of salmon in it. I had the fish and chips. The fish was just on the cusp of being overcooked. The fries, well let's just say I was served what was left at the bottom of the fryer. Our server was lousy and really needed to button a few more buttons on her top. We won't be back.

If you haven't stopped at Port Gamble, you should, and if you have, you probably already have had a meal at the General Store and Cafe. While Port Gamble is a "cute" place, there isn't much there except the General Store and Cafe. But it is worth a stop, especially for breakfast. My wife had an Indian Taco breakfast plate that what it lacked in qualtity was made up for in quantity. My wife isn't a big eater at breakfast, so the Indian taco was a bit much but she tried it because it sounded intriguing. She said she enjoyed it and is glad she tried it but wouldn't order it again. I ordered the Almond French Toast and it was very good and very substantial. I managed to finish it because it was so tasty but probably should not have been quite so indulgent. The General Store is worth a stop but the food is expensive and only average to somewhat above average in quality.

This review is of the store and museum not the cafe. The cute little upstairs museum has an amazing amount of shells on display. Great for enjoying after walking around the picturesque little town. The store itself can get crowded but it's a fun place. Overall go for the ambience, and just the vibe of the place. You can't go wrong if you are there to have fun!

We stop here after hiking and usually have appetizers and beers. Every time we have been ignored or the entree was incorrect. The food was not bad but the service is not very organized. We still come for a beer and sit outside. Just do not expect to get decent service.

After touring the town, it was fun to pop into the second floor of the general store and visit the shell museum. It's not the type of thing that you'd think would be worth stopping for, but it was!
