Review of Nooksack Falls

The falls are just beautiful. We visited on a warm, sunny weekend and there was no room in the parking lot; cars were parked haphazardly along the side of the road. It was sad to see just a beautiful place being trampled by so many cars and people and there was some trash, too. We had a bag with us and picked-up what we could.

Still, it is a place well worth stopping and looking if you are in the area - it takes no time at all.

If you have young children or adventurous teens keep them in hand - many people have died by going off trail and trying to see more. There are fences for protection in the authorized areas. Stick to those areas.

My husband and I were on our way on route 542 toward Mt. Baker ski area just recently (Oct 09, and visiting from MA) when we came across the sign for Nooksack Falls, and I said, "let's stop on our way back", which we did. And we are so glad we did! It was pouring raining when we stopped, but this little spot was worth every moment of getting wet. Wow! Like a very mini Niagara Falls in the middle of nowhere. So if you're on your way to ski or just view Mt. Baker, don't forget to stop and check out these falls. It's just a short drive off route 542, and just a hop, skip and jump down a short path...alot to see for such a small walk.

On Jan 1, 2009, we stopped at Nooksack on the way down from Mt. Baker after a day of snowboarding. The trailhead is marked at mile marker 33. There were people on the trail with snowshoes, but it was packed enough that my trailrunners did just fine. The waterfall was really pretty, especially with the snow covering all the trees. This was a nice, short walk to work out the sore muscles.
