As stated by others the renovations are interesting color choices (and laminate entertainment center, who picks laminate for heavy use). I realize that the black doors and trim are to make the dirt harder to see, which means not having to clean as thoroughly. What was sad is that there was still very visible dirt on floor and fixtures. And even in the renovated rooms there was chipped, peeling and bubbling paint. Also, note that we were on 5th floor and renovations were happening directly below on the 4th. We were woken at 8am by power tools. We were planning on getting up shortly anyways, but had we intended to sleep in, the location would have been horrid.

The heated pool, was not heated at.all. Sadly disappointing as a pool is a must have when we travel.

The continental breakfast was pretty bad. Cereal bar was good - thats the only highlight of the breakfast. Danishes were stale and tasted awful (regardless of staleness). The cream cheese for the bagels was in individual serving cups that had obviously been left unrefrigerated one too many times. The consistency was almost grainy looking and not creamy at all.

On the plus, the location is great, view was priceless. Cameron at the front desk was wonderful and very welcoming. They also had coffee and juice available 24/7 in the lobby and that was very nice to have.

Room Tip: While they are undergoing renovations be sure to ask to be far away from the rooms currently being r...

Thank you for taking the time to provide such candid feedback about our property. As you menioned, we are still undergoing renovations. Once everything is finished, I think the color choices will make more sense. I do want to asure you that the dark trim and doors have nothing whatsoever to do with concealing dirt - it is simply a design choice we hope will add to the newly updated feel of our property. I apologize that you were disturbed by the renovations, and wish that you had mentioned the noise to us while you were still in house so we could have addressed the situation directly.

I would also like to apologize about the temperature of the pool. Our Maintenance Team routinely checks the pool throughout the day, publicly posting readings including temperature. Their diligence allowed us to identify the inefficiency in the pool heating and repair it as quickly as possible. Our pool is indeed heated, and this morning was at a comfortable 80 degrees.

Regarding the cream cheese you found suspect in the breakfast room, I can only asure you that our friendly staff keeps all perishables refrigerated. They only set out a limited quantity at one time, and refill it throughout breakfast to ensure our guests receive a quality product. Though you were unhappy with the danish selection, I wondered if you had a chance to taste one of our fresh Belgian waffles? They are a big hit, and we recently added fruit toppings to our breakfast line up!

I appreciate you taking the time to compliment our staff. Above everything else, we value fantastic customer service and take pride in the fact that our staff is able to convey our commitment to our guests. I hope that you'll come back and see us when our renovations are finished - I have no doubt that you will be pleasantly surprised and that we can exceed your expectations for hospitality and service.

My husband and I, along with a tour bus of Senior Citizens from Pennsylvania enjoyed a week in September at this hotel. Our updated room was on the 5th floor and was very clean. The bathroom was small, but adequate. Curtains and bedspreads looked new, and also the carpet. The ocean view was superb, and definitely rise early to see the sunrise. We had tickets to eat the buffet breakfast in the restaurant, but it was not very good. The food was tasteless and barely warm. We preferred to eat the free contiental breakfast instead. It included make your own waffles, fresh fruit, donuts, danish, oatmeal, juices and very good coffee. The lunch and dinner restaurant was ocean front and very good. A little gift shop had reasonably priced gifts. For the price, it's a bargain. I would definitely stay her again.

The staff is super friendly, we started out on the 6th floor and some sort of generator was running so loud right at our room and we requested a room change and that was no problem although we had to give up our King bed for 2 queens. We have stayed at the Sandcastle before and always found it very nice for the price, except this year they remodeled and turned every room into a dark cave! Don't go by the pictures on the brochure or website, as the rooms are not white and blue and teal anymore! They are black and red and pumpkin with dark horrid striped carpet. The room and especially sink area are very dark and the room is drab and depressing! I know hurricane Irene left things damp and things had to be changed BUT why such horrid dark colors -- it's a beach hotel, it should be bright, light and colorful!
I did not see anything else being newly remodeled, carpet in hallways needs work and room doors are badly in need of paint. Some brighter lights in the hallway would be great also. Not real secure as anyone can access the rooms from the beach, parking lot or front entrance.
Breakfast is fine, plenty for a quick bite in the morning, and the rates are very reasonable. Housekeeping is on the spot, our rooms were perfectly cleaned at about the same time each day. Rooms are oceanfront, but, there again the black painted doors and window trim takes away. A/C works well and it is quiet which is a big plus. Pool area is great as is the outdoor sundeck.

Room Tip: We have stayed at quite a few hotels on the beach -- cheap and expensive, and none are perfect. Jus...

Our group was at the sand castle the weekend of the 16th of september. Most of the group arrived thursday the 15th. The hotel, the staff, the rooms all were excellent. For the price, you cannot get a better deal. The hotel staff( pauline britton) helped us get a super group rate, provided us with great infomation on golf courses, and even helped us with our group lunch at ocean eddies.
I highly recommend to have your stay at this hotel. within the next year, the hotel will be going thru changes, if you think it great now, wait till you see it in 2012. Our group, the USS JFK V-2 group will be back many times. Thanks again sand castle for making our reunion special!!!!

Room Tip: Ask the staff for anything, if they dont have it, they will get it!!!

The view from our room overlooking the ocean, beach & boardwalk is awesome. Wake up early to see spectacular sunrises from your room!
The room was clean but very much in need of an upgrade. The sink faucet has a water saver aerator that is barely a trickle. I'm for saving water but this is just ridiculous! On the other hand, the bath tub had full force water and the shower was reasonable. The TV remote was worn and I could barely see and read which buttons to press. But then, with such a great view, who needs to watch TV? As others reviewed, the breakfast room was a bit crowded but we got by. The coffee was good. Food selections were typical.
The parking garage is not for the inexperienced! Leave your luxury car at home! Over all, we had fun, and would stay again. The staff was friendly and helpful with most everything.
