Beautiful ambiance and fabulous food. Only one seating a night for 16 people. Reservations are booked months in advance. This is not a quick dinner. Plan to spend a couple of hours. Lots of thoughtful details to make your visit comfortable. One unique thing--diners pay for the prix fix dinner online when they make reservations, so you don't have to wait for the bill and shuffle slips of paper. Since you've already paid for your dinner, you can just leave when you're done.

What a treasure! We have known John and Diane for many years and it was a true pleasure to experience the Three Blacksmiths. We were in town to stay at the Inn at Litte Washington but this was the real highlight from our trip. From the minute we walked in, there was an immediate warmth to the environment and our evening kept getting better. John and is culinary team are exceptionally talented and Diane’s gracious nature as our host makes for a special combination. This is a must do pilgrimage for foodies everywhere!

My wife and I enjoyed dinner on a Thursday evening and were given a great table. I’ll say it appears that all the tables looked great but ours was cozy which was nice. The restaurant is so inviting, tables are placed so that everyone can see how the night will unfold.

The owners John and Diane are brilliant in how they’ve elected to serve the patrons. It’s a personable experience from them to you and it isn’t contrived, it’s very genuine. This is reflected on the plate as well, not just by taste which I’ll dive into in a minute but also visually. Great imagination but with restraint.

Now about the food. Yep it’s great, really great!

We started with a half seared big eye tuna paired with a pouilly-fuisse. The tuna was so fresh, it was a perfect canvas for the yuzu sauce, black rice and turnips.

Second was a carrot/ginger soup that was big on flavor. Chef isn’t afraid to be bold and it shined here. A nice back note of heat came through which warmed you up without being off putting. It was paired with Dolin Blanc with a twist, really fun pairing

Third was my favorite of the night, Kabocha Squash Agnolotti, sage cream and crispy guanciale paired with a Pfeffingen Blanc de Noir. The pasta was so delicate, definitely not over worked. The dish while delicate was robust with a earthy note offset by the sweetness of the squash. The wine provided just the right amount of lift as far as acid goes to brighten it up. Simply put, perfect marriage.

Fourth was an Herb crusted lamb loin that had a host of accompaniments that surprised you with each bite. Savory granola, lime roasted sweet potatoes, braised fennel and turnip. They paired a 2012 RdV Rendezvous Bordeaux blend (VA) which had great weight but not so to overshadow the star of the dish.

Lastly, the dessert was art on a plate. Valrhona chocolate tellicherry canelle with smoked marshmallows, white chocolate matcha and wood ice cream. Stunning!

We’re so looking forward to our next visit.

Thank Bradley B
