I want to first of all applaud them for not jacking up the room rates despite the nearby NASCAR events going on during the weekend. Hotels are notorious for doubling and tripling their normal rates when NASCAR Sprint Cup comes to town (I'm looking at you Bristol, TN area.) However, I was able to get a nice suite (living room area & bedroom) with twin king beds for $130/night during the weekend of the races. The hotel amenities were nice although the restroom facilities (namely the shower) could use some TLC as there was a touch of mildew on some of the grout work. However, you really had to be looking for it to notice. The rooms were spacious, quiet and comfortable. There is an "okay" restaurant on the premises. It is conveniently located near the Richmond Airport, Richmond International Raceway and the I-95/I-64 Interstates. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the area and will likely stay here in the future when attending the NASCAR races.

This Doubletree is virtually on the Richmond Airport property but is nicely insulated against jet noise. It's got some age on it but the rooms have been kept pretty well up-to-date. Some of the rooms are a pretty good hike from the elevator bank once you get to the proper floor. A full breakfast is available along with a nice bar area for evening drinks. There are several other very new hotels in that area (within 1 mile): Hampton, Hilton Garden, Holiday Inn, Homewood Suites. This Doubletree is usually 15-20% less expensive than those others. Some other reviewers have mentioned problems with the A/C. I've stayed here 8-10 times in the last six years and have yet to have any issues with the HVAC system and I like it cold in the room!

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the elevators.

Actually a nice hotel. the checkin was good and the people friendly. However when it eas time to go to bed could not get the room cooled down. Weak flow and not very cool. the bed was very nice and the stay otherwise was ok.

Room Tip: Make sure your A/C works on cool when you check in.

We were really there just to make sure we would make our 5:30 flight. We got there after 9 o'clock, quickly checked in (and got our delicious cookies!).

Our room was really pleasant, quiet (we were at the end of the hall to be fair), comfortable and we had the option of using their shuttle at 5:00 AM. Yes, AM.

It is hard to rate this hotel since I have had 2 pleasant stays and 1 horrible stay. This hotel usually has some of the best prices in Richmond for a reliable clean hotel (usually $75-ish), and the DoubleTree brand is awesome (always clean rooms and awesome cookies). My most recent stay was in December 2011 and it was GREAT.

Back in June 2011, there was a problem with the AC in the room and it was HOT (almost 90 degrees) in the room. When I complained to the front desk clerk at 3am, she responded that I did not operate the AC correctly. Annoyed that she essentially called me an idiot, I went back to my room and tried her advice (which DID NOT work either). I complained again the next morning, and told them the truth, and they gave me 2 free breakfasts and a free room next time I am in Richmond area.

I almost did not want to give them a 2nd chance, but a free room is a free room. The past trip was fine, and the front desk clerk who annoyed me was not working that night, and the gentleman who was there was efficient and helpful.

Pros:
Good service at 2 out of 3 times in my experience
Clean rooms
Price is usually lowest for this hotel-type

Cons:
Location---If you are traveling from the Rocky Mount, NC area and take I-295 north south of Richmond, or to the airport, the location is fine. However, if you are traveling from I-85 North to Richmond, this is NOT a good location (i.e. extra 15 min drive), since this off of I-295 (look at map and you will see what I mean).
Room size is smaller than other Double Trees I have stayed at.
Breakfast is expensive.
