We stayed at the Comfort Inn Airport (Roanoke) for two nights in December 2015 when visiting and enjoying another University of Mount Union (UMU) Purple Raider victory in the NCAA Division III Football National Championship Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. Since the stay was most pleasant and the accommodations most agreeable, we returned for the same in December 2017 … and “the same” meaning another UMU Purple Raider national championship win – their 13th (in 25 years)!
In 2015, we were on the 3rd floor, backside of the building … quiet, clean, and comfortable. A very pleasant front desk staff, particularly Brenda Payton, who always greeted us by name.
Upon return this year, Brenda was again at the front desk and remembered us from our stay in December 2015, remembered/knew why we were visiting again, and continued to greet us by name upon every meeting during our stay. She and the other staff were helpful with any other inquiry as well. With 2017 being the last year that the Stagg Bowl championship game will be played in nearby Salem, Brenda asked if we would be returning for other purposes or events in the future. We told her it was doubtful, but we cannot predict what the future may hold, and we would certainly make the Comfort Inn Airport our first choice … particularly, only if to meet up again with our friend Brenda!
With regard to our room this year… We were in the first guest room off the lobby on the 1st floor, right across from the room where the breakfast was served each morning … a decent and tasty daily spread, we might add! 1st Floor rooms, frequently, tend to show a little more wear-and-tear, and generally a bit more noisy. The first night, seemingly every hour on the hour, we could hear loud talking in the lobby. We wondered if it was the Security Guard coming back from his hourly rounds and jawing with the overnight desk clerk(???). And there was the muffled noise of breakfast being set up each morning, and then the other guests coming down to partake. The noise on the 1st floor was not that bad, but enough to take note not to have that particular 1st floor room in the future (at the Comfort Inn Airport or elsewhere).
We would say that the 2015 stay was 5-star, and the 2017 stay was 4-star. Brenda, of course, is 10 stars … every time!!!
