Review of McAlister's Deli

McAlister's Deli
Ranked #81 of 518 Restaurants in Roanoke
Cuisines: Deli
Description: Home of hand-crafted sandwiches, always fresh salads, giant stuffed spuds and our Famous Sweet Tea. It's always better to give. And at McAlister's, we give as much as we can, including free refills, big portions and big smiles. It's easy to be giving when you're a giver by nature. And we're givers. So as soon as you step through our doors, you can relax and expect to get a little more. Whether it's getting free refills on your sweet tea without ever leaving your seat or being served portions always a bit bigger than your appetite, giving you more of what you like is what we like to do. That's why you'll always be treated like an old friend and be greeted with a warm smile even if we just met.

Went to this restaurant with a group of 4 for a quick lunch. We got a variety of sandwiches which we all enjoyed. The sides which we had, which included fresh sreamed vegetables and soup, were well prepared and tasty. The prices here are a bit more than a typical sandwich shop, but we all agreed it was worth it for the quality of the food!

So my buddy is pretty picky when it comes to eating out. When he finds a place he likes he eats there until they mess it up. Every time we work together and are close to McAlister’s, this is our lunch spot. Lunch is about $10 per person but he always pays so I can’t complain too much. Probably eaten here 6-7 times now and always get the McAlister wrap and it’s always the same and never disappoints me. My buddy always gets the regular club and it too looks great. The Cole slaw is so so and the potato salad is pretty good. The tea is really good, but get half and half unless you like it really sweet. All in all it’s a pretty good sandwich shop, just wouldn’t hurt if they dropped the prices a dollar or two.

This is the first McAlister's I have visited in Virginia, compared to Texas, the prices are so much higher. The kids meals are set at $2.79, compared to just $1 in Texas, which is quite the difference.

The food was great, as always. But considering I ate at a nice burger restaurant for only $3 more, I don't think I will visit again.

McAlister's in Texas is great because it is nice food for a small price, it just isn't the same here.

Friendly, casual service from staff, particularly our cashier/manager, who offered us helpful information (ex. that Tuesday night kids meals are free). Lots of sandwich options--many hot options and some seasonal options. Ample seating, clean environment, a step up from most "quick service" options. When McAlister's opened years back, staff were very friendly and served high-quality food. Quality and experience factors then slipped at this location, but they seem to be on the rebound.

Ate lunch here with my daughter and got the pick 2. Half Mcallisters club and garden salad were my choices. The club sandwich is awesome and garden salad was very fresh. The service was very prompt and food received fast. Only complaint was it was very warm in the restaurant like air conditioning wasn't working. Plenty of help behind the counter.
