Lyness Accommodation

Spent six days at Lyness in the suite attached to the main house. It was comfortable and nicely decorated. We had just arrived in New Zealand and this was the perfect spot to relax at the end of a busy day. Loved the porch overlooking the garden. Our hosts were very friendly and informative about the area. Kerikeri itself is a great town to base yourself in the North part of the island. Alas, we were the last guests to stay in the suite as the owners had sold the house and were in the midst of moving out.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay in Lyness Suite and thank you for your positive review. We have had so many wonderful and interesting guests over the 13 or so years we have been in operation. It was with mixed feelings to sell our home and close the business, but are starting a "new chapter" which may include another guest accommodation. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip in New Zealand and all the best for your future travels.

My husband planned out our honeymoon, and chose Lyness Accommodations in Kerikeri, NZ as the primary place where we would be staying during our 5 1/2 weeks overseas. (We are from the U.S.) We spent about 3 weeks (with an 8-day break in between) in Lyness Cottage and were delighted with everything about the place--the view, the privacy, the homey/romantic atmosphere, our hosts(!). They treated us royally--changing our sheets for us, providing plenty of tea/coffee, giving helpful information, changing our towels--and all done very discreetly while we were away from the cottage so that we wouldn't feel like we were being imposed upon. We couldn't have asked for nicer hosts or a nicer place to stay! They felt like friends by the time we had to head home. The cottage was a little "home away from home" during our stay in New Zealand. Thank you, thank you so much, Sharon and Adrian!

In March we spent a relaxing week at Lyness accommodation in the self contained cottage. Great accommodation for a couple overlooking the KeriKeri inlet.
Sharon and Adrian were very hospitable hosts. They were happy to have a chat about the area and travel in general.
Well appointed cottage with adequate kitchen with verandah overlooking the inlet and countryside.
Easy drive or decent walk to KeriKeri town. Easy drive to other towns in Bay of Islands.
Quite a few good eating establishments in town. Can recommend the meal deal at the KeriKeri cinema and dinner at Cafe Jerusalem. For a good basic pub style meal the RSA returned services club is recommended.
One real highlight on our trip was a day cruise on the R Tucker Thomson tall ship from Russell. The $145 for the day was excellent value with great BBQ lunch included. The day trip included option to climb the rigging, jump off a rope swing into the bay and swim to one of the many small islands. Not only was it a great experience it was good to know that a proportion if the profits go to support sailing trips for you people as part of youth training programs. A great friendly crew with Captain Steve and his crew making it a real fun day. Fellow passengers came all around the world.
KeriKeri is on our list for another visit.

Thanks for the great and very informative review and so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and in the Bay of Islands. Appreciate the helpful tips to other travellers about restaurants, what to do in the area, and your great day out on the Tucker Thompson. We feel we live in a really special part of the world and are glad when we have guests who feel the same. Once again, thanks for your stay. Sharon

I don't normally travel on my own but I was in this instance due to my husbands commitments. We have stayed in some exceptional places internationally and Lyness known historically as "Strathbrae" is a little piece of paradise in KeriKeri, Northland, NZ. You have a choice of two accommodation styles - The Cottage with stunning views over Keri Keri inlet - the water looked like silk each morning, and I woke up to birdsong each day - OR - Lyness Suite itself, being part of the main house. Being on my own I opted for the cottage but the suite would also nave been terrific had the Cottage been unavailable.

Sharon and Adrian have lived, worked and travelled internationally, they are real characters and know how to "host" beautifully. They are there to make your stay as good as it can be without being obtrusive, offering a friendly yet professional approach. Lyness Suite is attached to the main house, but you would never know it - you feel you have the place to yourselves and....if you happen to want to have an extra family member or friend to stay there is a spare bedroom with its own bathroom to boot that can be made available for a small extra stipend = perfect!

I had friends up to join me and they stayed in the suite with their son. Without hesitation we will all definitely be back - probably fighting to dates! Northland is a stunning part of NZ, the cradle of NZ 's early development and offers a real taste of the NZ lifestyle. It is not to be missed and has something for everyone irrespective of; age, nationality or interests. Check it out! I have already booked our next stay on 2014!

We spent 3 wonderful nights in the Lyness suite, and though the weather wasn't always as warm and welcoming as we had hoped, our accommodation and host sure were! This place is cosy and comfortable with just the right amount of luxury to make you feel like you're really on holidays. Sharon is a wonderful host and booked tours for us and suggested great places to visit. The view is fantastic and the room large and wonderful. Loved it!

Thanks Florence! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us and also that you did make the most of your time in this area despite the weather not being the ideal.
