We came up here to camp, laze on the beach and swim with the manta rays and whale sharks. Done, done, done and done - all within three days.
Coral Bay is a calm serene white sand beach, safe for all levels of swimmers. Youngest and least experienced should stay in the shallows as the beach has a 2m drop-off. Snorkellers will revel in the fact that the drop-off and reef is actually so very close to shore!!!
The local government has installed permanent sun shelters along the beach.
All accomodation is within easy walking distance to the main Coral Bay beach.
The IGA Supermarket is extremely well priced for a remote location. Compared to Melbourne, Australia, we estimated approximately 10 to 20% mark up which we felt was very reasonable given Coral Bay is so far away from a main city centre. The store is also very well stocked and had fresh and dry foods, camping, fishing and swimming gear, stationery, household, cleaning and bathroom products, snack food, ice confectionaries and just about anything else you could think of. Brilliant.
