don't judge a book by its cover

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Aug 2016
in this case, the cover was quite attractive but once you flip the page...oh no.....
The entrance, lobby, and bar were all lovely, promises of a fine hotel experience...but alas, not to be had. This place is in need of some serious maintenance.
Security is good - matter of fact, we were stopped at every turn, starting with the attitude from the young lady at the gate, lots of prowling guards, we had to wear plastic wristbands and had to be escorted to our room (huh?)...
We negotiated our walk-up rate (pricey for what we got) and were given a room but the carpet was ripped. Clerk asked if we would like to change - well yes...so we changed to another room but lost our nice view. The room was typical sleazy motel, no wifi (only in the lobby and restaurant), no A/C (big fail), no in-room coffeemaker/fridge/iron/hair dryer, no balcony, small TV with mostly Spanish-language programming
Bathroom was disgusting, toilet didn't flush all the way, faucet leaked, clever use of black grout concealed the mildew, got 2 thin bath towels and no hand towels or washcloths....
The bar closes EARLY, we got there at 8:20 and the bartender told us we should order everything we wanted (a second drink perhaps) because he was leaving...and he did and he shut off the lights and left us to drink in the dark.
Ok, the grounds were lovely...right on the ocean, kids' playground, tennis courts, nice pool, lots of lounge chairs but the hot tub was so green it looked like it belonged in Rio.
This place is about halfway between Tijuana and Ensenada, just south of Rosarito and the 'lobster town' of Puerto Nuevo, a good location for day trips but I would definitely stay elsewhere. (Try Las Rosas just north of Ensenada, or Hotel Coral, both are MUCH nicer for only a few $$ more)
Date of stay: August 2016
Room Tip: You might get wifi if your room is close to the front desk. You get only a partial ocean view...

It was a very funny vacation with my kids.
They enjoyed all day long the two pools.
The nearby village is very famous because they have a "Puerto Nuevo" style to cook LOBSTER, It is fried with butter and flour tortillas, beans and red rice.

I really wanted to like this place but the experience was just bad. Here's the good:
-Service from staff was courteous and pleasant.
-Drinks at the bar were delicious!
-Parking was free and was secure. There is a guard checking everyone.

    Here's the bad:
-Rooms were very outdated and whatever was updated was very poorly executed.
-The bathroom had mildew and mold growing. There was caulking everywhere, like it was unfinished.
    -No AC
-Beds were stiff as a board.
-Beach front view room was always noisy due to the pool and drunkenness from others.

If you want to relax, this is not the place. There are standing fans you can request which are needed in August. If you have allergies, don't come here. You can smell the mildew on the lower levels of the hotel.

Room tip: Rooms with no ocean view seem to be quieter.

We drove 2 hours to come to a family party, everything reserved. We spent 40 minutes trying to get in to the front desk. Security would not allow us to get in regardless of all the information we gave him about the reservations. They sent us to front desk and there we spent 30 minutes. By the time we where able to get to the brunch area (almost 2 hrs after) they charged us close to 600 pesos for the buffet. They advised that they would close in 1.5 hrs. We determined that it was enough time to eat. When we got to the buffet area, 90% of the plates where done and they were not going to serve more. They treated us as stupid and no manager available to speak. After a tough claim, we were able to get our money back. A complete rip off and lack of common sense. Prices are extreme inflated compared to other options around. Get the real feeling of Puerto Nuevo elsewhere. This hotel does not represent the region. Shame on your customer service. No one hears or cares. I'm 100% sure they won't even reply to this comment. Don't waste your time or money.

We went and it was raining, cloudy and windy. Room was nice, we checked in around 7pm so first thing we did was look for the jacuzzi, we were in the outdoor jacuzzi that was next to the beach, it was really relaxing the sounds of the waves the light rain and hot water. We did have to walk a long way to actually find the pool and you couldn't actually walk down to the beach it's more of a view than enjoying the actual beach. Oh and WiFi did not reach the rooms where we stayed at.

They wear the 4 star rating proudly on their shirts but are far from a 4 star hotel. Horrible wait to check in and out, After 5 or 6 guest are in line an employee walks out from the front door to start helping out. The rooms are old and ran down and tired. The carpets are sticky and the bathroom was dirty with small cockroaches and no down shower snout. The tub was clogged and the it had no A/C just a fan and a heater on wheels. The grounds are fairly clean and the Sunday buffet was ok but not worth the $16usd they charged. Stay somewhere else like the Hotel Coral and Marina....Now thats a 4 or 5 Star hotel.
