Heading back

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 19 Oct 2015via mobile
I am heading to the Iberostar Mojito this Sat Oct 24th, for my fourth visit! The reasons I keep returning are: close proximity to the airport, reasonably priced, beautiful beach, amazing staff, decent food, very clean and not too large of resort. I have stayed in both the upgraded rooms as well as first floor, in a regular room. There isn't any difference except the upgraded room, in the chalet style building, had a balcony. In the regular buildings, the lower rooms have a small patio, the upper have no balconies
I was there last in early April with a friend and every time I return there is something else that has been upgraded. This is an older resort, originally the El Senador, and it is constantly improving. I have travelled to many resorts in Cayo Coco and return to this one for the reasons mentioned above. It is one of the few resorts that I can say the food is very good. Cuba isn't known for their cuisine and if that is why you go, you maybe should consider another country. There is always a carved meat at the evening buffet along with many options of grilled fish and meats that are very good as well as a full buffet and pasta station. The salad bar has a wide variety and of course changes season to season as it is supply and demand for these cooks. I have enjoyed the foods at all three ala cartes. It is a little hike to the beach over the mangroves on pier like structures, not a big issue for most people, but if you have mobility issues or little children that don't like to walk, it could be a problem but it is a nice stroll for the healthy. The beach is absolutely beautiful, with white fine sand and very blue water, and you can walk for miles. The night shows are some of the best I have seen in the carribean, my favourite being Chicago and Boogy Nights. The no seeums can be a bit of a problem depending on the time of year and I have used Muskol lotion or the new Avon repellant, they work best for me. A lot of people mistake them for bedbugs which I have never seen there. This is rather lengthy but hopefully I covered the important points.

We stayed in this hotel for a week and I am very disappointed with this hotel. This hotel is not a 4*, it is merely a 2*. The rooms were very run down with old/ broken beds, with no or little air condition with very basic facilities.
The hotel was full of mosquitos which made the stay unbearable as we spend most of the time scratching ourselves.
Very little facilities for children so kids are bored.
No variety in food- same food all day everyday in all restaurants and staff were very unhelpful and poor service overall.
Cayo coco is a beautiful place but this hotel ruined this holiday for me. I will not be going back to this hotel or any iberostar after this poor experience

Dear Reviewer,
We would like to thank you for this nice review about our resort and for being repeat guests of the many we have.
We would not like to justify but many times we lack variety because our suppliers do not have many of the food items we ask, however we try to make it as tasty as possible.
We keep on doing renovations all around but it takes time and budget and also we have to do it without interrupting our guest´s piece.

Wonderful place, they keep making upgrades and renovations around the whole resort. As usual the staff was exceptional and always willing to make your stay more enjoyable.

Got caught in Hurricane Joaquin and lost the beach for a few days but the weather stayed great except for the mosquitoes which were bad at the à la carte due to the lagoon being raised by close to 18 inches. No the resort's fault, we have them in Canada as well.

Once again, best place to be in Cayo Coco!

Room tip: All rooms are great and easy access to everything.

Don't even know where to start.
I have been to Cayo Coco many times and this was my last.
I have noticed with each trip small changes in the hotel and the people and normally I would go to flamenco but a bad experience with an employee taking his private part out deterred me from wanting to return to that hotel so we thought to give a new hotel a chance after reading the reviews of iberostar mojito we were very excited to be coming and decided to leave all negative thoughts at home.
Upon arriving it took 45 min to check in
The main pool the water was green.
Our toilet was broken and wasn't fixed until the following day. And to make matters worse the washroom in the lobby had no toilet paper.
The gardeners and or maintenance people lurking in corners with a garbage full of goods to try to sell everything you walk to room. Not at all good. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and hope all Iberostar hotel's are not this poorly run

Dear
We really feel bad that you did not enjoy your stay among us as much as you would have liked. Anyways, we thank you for letting us know and posting your review in this website. Check- ins here are usually very fast, do not know whether you were coming together with a big group or not.
We do apologize, we had a problem with a filter in one section of the main pool and we closed that section till it was repaired and kept the other side, plus the adult pool and children’s pool available.
In our maintenance report we have your washroom fixed same day and then had troubles again and had to be fixed next day as well. We will keep a closer eye on public washroom.
We really apologize for the inconveniences and if you wish to give us a second time we promise you we will do it much better.
Kind Regards,

We really enjoyed our stay at the mojito. Staff were amazing! Our room was spotless everyday, and people were continually cleaning all areas of the resort. We loved the buffet always lots to choose from. Enjoyed lunch at the 24 hour snack bar by the pool. However the best lunch we had was at the bbq area near the walkway to the beach,,, amazing lunch!
The pool was nice and clean and the beach was gorgeous......we will definitely be returning to the Ibersotar Mojito in the future!

Just returned Monday from another great trip to the Mojito!! This was our sixth visit. We returned this time with family (daughter and husband) and close friends of theirs and close friends of ours. We all enjoyed a great time.

The food was great - as it was slow season, the selection was about half what is usually available but always well prepared. Everyone could always find something to eat. All the a-la-cartes were tried and there were no complaints there!

We were all in building 17 and found it close to all amenities (lobby, pools, buffet and snack bar) and just a 5 minute or so walk to the beach. We have also stayed in buildings 16, 18, and 20 - all of these are close to the main amenities. Rooms were kept clean and mini-fridge replenished every two days with water, pop and beer. Air conditioning worked wonderfully. The only complaint was lack of hot water a few days - but easily fixed by going to the front desk and requesting maintenance.

We attended the Cigar Lounge a few of the nights and Freddy the bartender impressed everyone with his bartending skills. He makes the best Mojito!! And of course the band Tahiti was awesome. Unfortunately, due to the ill health of a band member (or a member of the family) they were unable to play the last two nights of the week. The band plays Monday to Friday. We do hope everyone is okay now! When we were there without the band playing, a few in our group played a couple games of pool - we all had a great time!

We managed to take in one night of entertainment and we chose the Michael Jackson show. It was very well done and the dancers were wonderful! Hopefully next time I can stay up to watch Chicago - I've heard it is also very good! We are early risers so staying up late doesn't happen very often!!!!

Weather was hot and sunny most of the week! Hurricane Joacquin was in the vicinity and we had winds for a couple days and rain for about 20 minutes. The beach took the brunt of the 'storm' - it was closed for a couple days - mainly because there was no beach. Some of the palapas didn't survive, the railings and bottom stairs to the beach were basically destroyed and lots of debris washed up. Hurricanes and the moon don't mix well with the tides - lots of waves! But they were cleaning up every day so hopefully all is back to normal - the beaches are beautiful!!!!

Mosquitos were plentiful last week!!! I think just because it was quite humid at the beginning of the week and they do like early morning and dusk. So bring your insect repellant. We have been in December before and mosquitos were not an issue.

We did not encounter any 'towel issues' as some have reported in the Cayo Coco area. There were always clean towels in the room and beach towels were exchanged every day. If you like to have a facecloth - bring your own from home.

We walked up to the market - about a 5 minute walk. Lots of local artisans with their wares. There is also a pharmacy and a few other speciality shops.

All in all a great week! We were welcomed with open arms by many of the staff - front desk: Ana, Ariel; bartenders: Ariel, Edil, Luis, Tamara, Roberto, Yosvany; restaurant/bar staff: Alex (Lixander), Dayami, Lizandra, Aisel, Carlos; entertainment staff: Alec (activities director), Adrian, Yami, lovely young lady at the towel hut (whose name escapes me); gardeners Raul, Osvaldo and many many more whose names I can't remember at the moment!!! Also, a shout out to the staff who keep the public areas clean and tidy!! Just love the staff here!!

Also, a huge shout out to Jorge (I hope that is how it is spelled) the Manager who was always out and about checking on things! He would be up before everyone else and would always be seen throughout the day, during the evening entertainment and perhaps in the disco - always making sure things were running smoothly. He was everywhere!! We made a special attempt to speak with him several times - there were some maintenance issues (broken filter for one of the pools) and he reassured us that it would be fixed as soon as they received the new filter (not an easy task in Cuba). Also, during the storm - keeping everyone away from the beach while they were doing repairs and cleaning up. After all, the tourists are his responsibility - everyone needs to feel safe and protected - and that he did!! Hopefully, everything is back to normal now. Jorge made a point of coming to see us on our departure day and hoped that we would be back - we reassured him that we would and that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We think this resort is good value for the money. Best part - it is only 15 minutes from the airport - very convenient!! Go with an open mind and you will have a great time!!

Dear oscark5678,
Thank you so much for this nice review about your stay and for keeping on coming to our resort through the years. We do have many repeat guests here with us all the time and they like it very much here as well.
It is true that we had a very rough time with the hurricane passing by close and the tides being so high that water came on to the bridge and we had to close it for a couple of days, but all is back to normal and also the pool. We got the filters and fixed it.
Yes, when it is rainy season as we are now, there are more mosquitoes around and even if we spray it is difficult to eliminate them all.
We continue working on a daily basis to satisfy our client’s need. You are our reason to be.
With much respect,
Online Reputation Manager.
