Reviewed 5 April 2011

La Costa Golf & Beach Resort is in the most secluded and attractive part of the Costa Brava, located between the beach and its own chamionship golf course. The hotel offers international style accommodation, with excellent dining facilities and many rooms overlooking the large pool and garden area. Set in spacious and private grounds, the hotel has a wide range of possibilities - the gastronomic restaurants of the surrounding medieval enclaves, the beach, sailing and watersports, the unparalelled tranquility of the Catalan countryside, and proximity to several excellent golf courses.

This golf/beach hotel is in a remote(ish) position for anything other than golf course and beach - any where else is not accessible without transport.
Very quiet out of season and when we left there were only 30 people left ihn hotel.
Room was good, spacious etc and room cleaning, service was ok.
We ate in hotel restaurant 1st night which was poor quality, poor service and no atmosphere - not to be recommended - better to take car and go into Pals(about 10 mins) to eat although not a great deal of choice there either but food ok to good.
The pool was not available to use and generally hoterl very quiet and service eg at bars etc slow to non-existent.
The breakfast was limited in choice for a supposedly 4 star hotel and service again only ok. Coffee/hot drinks served via a drinks machine - very poor and slow.
I would not rush to return and stay here even to play golf course which is excellent and in top 100 in Europe-better to stay elsewhere and travel.

We stayed in here in a Junior suite in August with my wife and our 3 kids. This is a nice, small (120 rooms) hotel on the Costa Brava but far away from the mass tourism. We had half board, which included a nice 3 course meal in the evening.

The pool area was nice, with a large shallow end for kids, as well a zero entry area.

Beach was about a 50 metres walk. The hotel has a beach club. Rooms were renovated and clean. Staff was very friendly and responsive.

Expect to be nickled and dimed to some degree, which is a little bit irritating given the already steep prices (especially in August). They will charge you for the tennis courts, the beach chairs and the kid's buffet at night is a mind boggling EUR19!

Guests were about 95% spanish during the time we were there.

La Costa is a lovely mid size hotel located on a golf course, opposite the beach (50metres, own semi private beach).
There are 120rooms, hotel is well decorated, rooms well laid out, (we had a junior suite which was big) - its not cheap but ok for european standards (we paid 300euro per night for 2 adults and a child including a great breakfast - this is definitely better than most other 4 or 5 star hotels). We found the staff helpfull and pleasant.
The pool area is great - ideal for families with smaller kids. not much by the way of entertainment for older children, but than there is plenty of clubbing in the neighbourhood. Plenty deckchairs and shade if required. the lunch buffet is great - the standard of the food is very high. pricing for drinks is extremely reasonable for hotel standards.
Bar area a bit dull, with not a lot going on.

room service is fine, all rooms are cleaned meticulously.

Mix of people (it was high season) 50% spanish rest dutch, englsh Belgian.

We will come back in june or so next year for some golf. (low season pricing a lot better).

There is a definite lack of good hotels in this great area of spain, which is touristy but no high rise and lots of small beaches and old villages to visit. Food quaility (vs price) is excellent if you find the right restaurants.

  • Liked — location, pool, food
  • Disliked — internet wifi did not work in room, no entertainment, not cheap

This hotel offers the lowest value of any hotel that I have ever stayed. The room price was 190 EUR per night and I would definitely had a more comfortable stay in any 1-2 star hotel.

PRO:
- good breakfast with fresh orange juice, serrano ham in nice ambient with view over the pool area
- attractive, large outside swimming pool (when it is not closed )
- 50% discount on green fees for golfers

CONTRA:
- NO HEATING IN ROOMS FOR MOST OF THE YEAR (until mid of October at least)
- no blankets !!! We stayed for a weekend in mid of October and there was only a thin sheet as a bed cover. This was particularly unconfortable as there is no heating in the rooms. When we complained about the lack of heating, we were told that the heating is only activated for the whole hotel later for the colder months (in mid of October there were night temperatures of 12 C).
- low cost furniture in rooms, that you would rather expect in a youth hostel rather than in a 4 stars hotel
- floor of rooms covered with cheap carpet (we found this very unhygienic)
- swimming pool is closed for off-season. The pool is not only not heated, but there have been signs everywhere that it was not allowed to use the pool.
- extremely poor service. When we asked for blankets the second night, room service left the blankets (those without cover) on top of our bed, so that we could prepare the beds ourselves.
- completely overpriced.

The hotel has apparently the problem of extremely low occupancy, so they decide to cut their costs in any possible way (closing pool, scarce& cheap room interior, no hotel activities of any kind), going as far as turning off the room heating what makes it simply unbearable to stay in the hotel outside of the summer months.
I have stayed in about 10 different hotels at the Costa Brava in recent years in the 3 to 5 stars categories.Even if the price for the hotel room would have been 90 Euros instead of the 190 Euros that they actually charged I would prefer to stay in any of the other 3 stars hotels. So even for golfers that could benefit of the discount on the green fee, I would definetly recommend to choose another hotel. Here at tripadvisor you will find a lot of much better hotel options at the costa brava at a much better price.
