On previous visits to Cadaques we've stayed in town; this was a different kind of experience.
The hotel is set on a rocky peninsula a few kilometers from the centre of town. Previous reviewers have indicated a 25 min walk to the centre of Cadaques, but I think that's a bit optimistic, especially in the scorching heat we experienced in mid-June. A shorter trip involves a car journey of 2km to a free parking area, then a very steep 7 minute walk down into town (10 minutes back up!). Not for the faint-hearted.
Our room and shower were both of decent size, very clean, with comfortable bed and pillows. The room had good wifi, and a TV with BBC World available. Linen and towels were changed daily. There was no fridge, which was a pity because it would have been nice to chill water before setting out to walk to the sea or the town.
The hotel pool was excellent, with plenty of shade available in the heat of the day.
Breakfast was overall good, with lots of choice, plenty of fruit, and good pastries.. Weak points were, first, the coffee, which was very poor, and quite cold towards the end of the breakfast service (decent coffee had to be paid for), and secondly the 'juice', which was heavily diluted. The hotel really ought to bring the drinks up to the standard of the rest of the breakfast.
We had one dinner in the hotel. Food was excellent, and nicely presented. Service was excellent. Again, however the drinks were a weak point. We ordered two glasses of house wine, and on the night we we dined in the hotel the house wine turned out to be poor. Prices of the food and wine were around the level of the better places in Cadaques.
To sum up, we thought this was a very good hotel which could be even better with attention to quality details at breakfast and dinner.
