“Ideal for young families but watch out for the noisy entertainment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2012

We had a lovely week at the Coma Gran. Our room was on the fifth floor and had a pool view. We enjoyed the food and found there was a good variety and the drinks were not overpriced in the restaurant. THe staff are really lovely and do anything to make your stay more pleasant. THe sunbeds were reserved early. it is an all british hotel and lots of beds were taken by 7.30am. The pool area is nice but very, very busy. The reps regularly take over the pool and this started to annoy after a while. We tended to go to the beach to escape! It is a great location and a fab resort, use the Eroski supermarket for your shopping as its so cheap. All in all a great holiday, the room was nice enough though could do with a little tidy up. I dont think we would return as the Thomson Family scene was too much for us.

Room Tip: pick a high floor away from the pool if you want some sleep!

Just back from 11 night stay with family at Coma Gran. The hotel is nice, the staff friendly and helpful on the whole and the food was surprisingly good. I wouldnt regard it as a four star hotel however as the rooms are in need of some refurbishment (rust on fridge doors, broken patio door and flaking/ damp patches on bedroom wall). If you think of it as a good 3 star then you wont be disappointed. We were on a half board package with Thomson holidays. The reps were always on hand and were friendly and approachable. The entertainment staff worked very hard and there were lots of games and activities during the day. The evening entertainment was poor. We were in an apartment overlooking the pool which was noisy until about 11.30pm which didnt bother us. The swimming pool is too small, especially as most people take inflatables in with them which take up even more space. It is very busy during the day with the activities and music until about 4 o'clock. We tended to go to the beach as it was not as claustrophobic and there was always a nice breeze there. Just as well - with some people going down at 6.30am to reserve their sunbeds! Having said that, there were always some free when we came back from beach about 5 so not a problem for us. Our kids went to the kids club a couple of times and really enjoyed it so it is worth booking them in for some sessions. One negative is that the bar service was very slow and the staff in the bar not friendly at all - probably a side effect of most people being on all inclusive packages. My husband and brother were convinced the beer was watered down and refused to pay for it so we went to other bars. The location is great with only a few minutes walk to a nice sandy beach which is very clean and great for young families as it shelves gently so you have to walk out a bit before it gets deep.
Overall a good hotel, with a good range of high quality food and friendly staff.

Just come back from a weeks holiday with my husband and 2 year old daughter, this was our first holiday as a family and what a great choice we made! Rooms were of a high standard, very clean and a good size with a basic kitchen and lovely modern bathroom. The balcony was a decent size with glass along the rail to stop children from being able climb out. We were on the 4th floor overlooking the pool and had a lovely view of the sea, so we definitely weren't disappointed.

We went self catering so didn't use the restaurant in the hotel, however we did have lunch a couple of times from the pool snack bar which was pretty decent. We ordered a couple of pizzas from here and took them back to our room which was nice. Kitchen is very small but to be honest who wants to be cooking meals while your on holiday??? I certainly wasn't. We took cereal and bought bread for toast, ham, eggs and cheese. We also took a couple of tins of spaghetti shapes for our little one on the days we stayed in for lunch. We ate out every night and some lovely meals. We really enjoyed the Brittania which was just round the corner from the hotel and went there on the first and last night.

We thought the beach was lovely, the sea was beautiful and clear, very picturesque. The path that ran parallel to the beach was a really pleasant walk and we did this most days mainly to try getting our little lady to sleep. If you carry on walking along here you will come to
S'Illiot.

We certainly put some miles in during this holiday and had a walk to Cala Millor which also seemed like a pleasant resort.

Our little one spent most of her time in the pool, there is a small children's one and a large one. Both were very clean! There were signs in the lifts with regard to children wearing nappies in the pool if they weren't potty trained. I mean why parents would let them go in without is beyond me! So this problem has been addressed so please don't worry about this. Pool areas were a pleasant environment to be in, with plenty of sunbeds. We went down at different times of the day and always managed to get a bed.

The reps were fantastic, I see Rossy Essex has been mentioned a few times and he really was good. They are all so full of energy and we noticed how they knew the kids by name which I thought was lovely. Entertainment for kids was brilliant. I do think our Emilie was just a bit too young to appreciate it, and if I had any criticism at all it would be the time of the kids evening entertainment. By the time it was starting Emilie would be getting for bed! We did stay up a bit later one night though and she enjoyed dancing along. Once little lady was in bed my husband and I were able to sit out on the balcony enjoying a few drinks whilst watching the evening entertainment as we could see the stage where we were. They had some great acts on including Abba Again and an illusionist.

Bit long winded but I could go on, so much to say. We had a fab time and would definitely go back again, It does what it says on the tin, this is a family resort so I suggest couples steer clear. I believe the Coma Gran has just been rated as the number one family hotel in Majorca which was nice to hear while we were there. We certainly weren't disappointed by our stay here!

Just got back from a very enjoyable 7 day stay at the Coma Gran with my wife, four year old son and two year old daughter. This was our first holiday abroad with the kids and the resort and hotel fully met our expectations. The hotel and apartment was clean and well maintained.  We booked up with breakfast included only but ended up upgrading to eat in the hotel restaurant for two evenings. We were impressed by the variety and quality of the food for both breakfast and dinner and our son and daughter enjoyed the lower buffet bar especially for younger children. We ate out for the rest of the time and particularly liked the Cafe De La Mar restaurant with its open air barbecue. Be aware that many of the restaurants and bars adjacent to the hotel serve very similar food to one another and you have to venture further if you wish to experience more traditional Spanish dishes.

The hotel is primarily geared up for those with young children with plenty of activities to join in with.  A fair amount of time was of course spent at the pools which were clean and suitable for all. I would imagine however that the smaller toddler pool gets very busy at peak season. Sa Coma beach was excellent and just a 5minute walk from the apartment. The close proximity of the beach to the hotel was a key factor for us for getting the kids and all the beach paraphernalia there with minimum hassle. The mediterranean sea was clear and warm and amazing to swim in. The sea was at a shallow paddling depth on the shore for quite a way out which made it safe for our son to play.

I felt that Thomson had gone to great lengths to make the Coma Gran a successful hotel for guests with young families and had clearly ensured that their staff based there were fully briefed and well trained. We found them very approachable and helpful.  The crèche and kids club facilities on site provided professionally run sessions which allowed us to relax and have a very small break from the kids to recharge our batteries.

It's been said on several of the previous reviews but feel I also have to mention the excellent Thomson resident entertainment team who add a lot of value to the Coma Gran. The team ran a busy schedule of activities during the day and compered the proceedings in the evenings ensuring the mix of entertainment was fit for all ages.  'Rossy Essex' in particular has a natural rapport with kids and adults alike and is a born entertainer; his  boundless enthusiasm and giving nothing less than 100%. Whatever they pay him, it's not enough.

The Coma Gran is a great hotel but it is very much a family resort and those who are looking for a quiet base may find that there is too much activity for their liking.

If I was the manager of the Coma Gran I would change four things:
1.  Make the music at the pool area quieter (background music) when activities are not taking place.
2. Start the kids entertainment in the evening slightly earlier.
3. Serve Spanish tapas at the poolside cafe bar.
4. Discourage guests from reserving sun loungers by the pool with towels unless they are in the pool (even though we only had trouble finding available loungers in a good spot on one or two occasions).
