“Perfect for the price”
Reviewed 29 June 2012

We have just arrived home after a one week all inclusive stay, 4 adults and 2 kids, a great time had by all. We would all eat breakfast in the Buffett restaurant and have lunch from the snack bar in Leda, nothing to write home about but perfectly acceptable food. In the evening we had already planned to eat out which was affordable because of the low cost of the stay (£1900.00) for six.

We had 2 rooms in Minerva 1 which were a bit dated but comfortable and clean, with a fridge, toaster and kettle. The rooms did get a bit warm this week but we left the balcony doors open and made sure the bug plugin was on. (no mozzi trouble for us).

If you need a bed by the pool turn up early and don't just put your towel out and leave as 'Soccorista' will remove it for others to use. There is a need for some parasols but you can always find shade under a tree in the extensive grass areas.

It would have been nice to drink from a glass instead of a plastic cup but it's not the end of the world.

If you choose to go here on a cheap all inclusive break please go with an open mind and you will have a wonderful time. If you want 5 star luxury then you better dig a bit deeper into your pocket and look elsewhere.

We got a late all-inclusive deal and paid very little. We therefore knew to expect very little. However, we were pleasantly surprised: the hotel complex was a short walk from the beach, was huge with several swimming pools to choose from and had very good entertainment.

Don't book excursions at the desk outside the main reception complex or at the reception desk itself, go outside to No Frills Excursions on the main road instead where it is cheaper. They also rent fans too as the hotel is not air-conditioned

If you fancy a change from the all-inclusive buffet, go to the main strip and choose any of the grills, they all smell great and are reasonably priced. The food provided in the hotel is quite good though and there is plenty of choice.

We landed in Palma at about 1 in the morning and were then sat on the coach for about 50 mins before leaving so arrived at the hotel around 3am. We managed to be first into reception (if you were at the back of the queue you’d have had to wait quite a while to book in as there was only 1 staff member booking in)

We got 1 key card for the room and were told another would be available at an extra cost, you can also hire a key for the safe, this worked out about 20€ for the week + 10€ deposit but you can only pick these up during the day.

Our room was a 1 bedroom apartment located in the Leda 2 block, we had a nice view of the swimming pool with a large balcony and the room was clean & spacious. There was a small kitchen with a fridge, hob, kettle and also a coffee machine. The TV picked up ITV & ITV2. The cleaners come 3 times a week and bedding is changed once a week. The lifts in the Leda block are very temperamental at being called, we quite often would have a race with another couple to see who could manage to get it first- apparently it’s just a problem with the key cards though and if you change them it should work ok!

I was a bit worried after seeing the reviews about the food. The first day we got there we went for breakfast and we pleasantly surprised, there were 3 different types of cereal, fresh fruit, bread, croissants and full English. Lunch & dinner were usually salad, a selection of hot foods, soup and puddings. The lunch and dinner meals did get quite boring after a day as the food was very similar and didn’t exactly excite the taste buds (pork everyday!) so be prepared to take some extra funds for eating out a couple of times. There is also a tapas bar that is all inclusive but apparently only if you book with Thomas Cook and an all inclusive burger bar next to the Leda pool.

The all inclusive drinks are sold at the pool bars and are of a good variety of fizzy drinks, coffee, beer and local vodka, rum etc. They were also happy for us to take down big pop bottles and fill them up at the all inclusive pumps for our room. The all inclusive drinks from the entertainment area stop at 12 and after this there is the onsite bar or you can buy drinks in the karaoke bar.

The entertainment was quite poor, one night there was a glee tribute act, no singing just dancing very out of time from each other to some music. During the clothes changes after every song, you would get half of another song whilst they got ready to come back on. You could also hear the music (quite often Gareth Gates- Spirit in the sky) from your rooms if you are trying to get an early night, however this did finish at 12. The Karaoke bar opened at half 11 and was empty every time we walked in there so we didn’t bother staying. You are also able to fish in the river that leads from the lake if you throw the fish back. The water can be a bit smelly at times and we did see a rat, but I think this is to be expected in a river! The best entertainment was probably the unavoidable water sprinklers that came on about 1am that soaked anyone who was walking past!

The pools are nice and clean but as expected they are all full of children and there is a huge shortage of sunloungers so be prepared to get down early and fight for your spot as there was an argument over them one day. There are also suncare advisers which will set up a table by the pool and give you free advice on how best to tan with out burning, they also sold suntan lotion and aftersun. Because there is a lake nearby, this meant there was a nice breeze by the pools close to it.

The rooms do not have aircon but you can rent a fan at an additional cost. It was 2€ per day with a 10€ deposit, however when some friends joined us later in the week they were told that the price had gone up to 3€ a day because so many people had rented them. Thankfully, our room was quite cool but our friend’s room was boiling despite keeping the blackout curtains shut during the day. The fan they rented you could only feel if you were stood very close to it.

The go-karts are really expensive and not all inclusive but the shops sell some food and gifts, these are slightly cheaper off site. There is a strip of shops, restaurants and bars just off the entrance to BelleVue that are quite nice with a Spar shop and Pharmacy right opposite. Just to warn you there are a lot of sunglasses and watch sellers and every single one will try and stop you!

The beach is about a 5 minute walk up the strip and the water park is about a 10 min walk, it costs just over 21€ to get in. A taxi to the harbour, where all the main shops and the nicer part of the beach is will cost you about 5€ and take around 5 mins to get there. You can also book a picnic from the hotel (by 6.30 the day before) to take with you for your lunch.

I think the place would be really good for families with kids and teenagers but not so much for couples or older families. Bargain price but the facilities and variety of food is reflected in this.

Room Tip: 1 bedroom apartments are worth the extra couple of quid for the amount of extra space you get, espec...

My girlfriend wanted to book somewhere cheap and all-inclusive and we thought that this looked nice from the reviews, oh the benefit of hindsight... Firstly it's quite far away - you're looking at 90 mins on a coach from Palmas airport (or 45 minutes and 69 Euros in a cab if your tour operator didn't book your transfers).

The rooms are falsely advertised to have air-conditioning, the only place in the whole complex that does is the Reception, so expect muggy nights and lots of mozzies biting you to pieces through your open balcony. We were also told (fobbed off), quite plainly, that they don't have double-beds so you either make do with two uncomfortable single beds pushed together or sleeping with the ants on the broken sofa floor.

We didn't go self-catering (we should have) but had we done we would probably have eaten out as the ants take over the cooking area. You can't seriously eat the all-inclusive food - like being back in the school canteen, the hotel rules (believe it or not) stated that you should "dress appropriately for dinner", which is interesting considering most kids were running around in their swimming gear.

Not only that, the man at the door of the dining area lets in all and sundry so you have massive queues, lots of whom clearly don't have wristbands on (so aren't staying at the resort). The food is awful, if you don't eat meat - don't even bother unless you fancy chips, rice and mouldy bread all week.

As for the drinks - tiny cups with '3 drink per person' (maybe if you gave bigger cups you wouldn't need such a ridiculous rule). No idea what's included and what isn't - none of the staff seem to know or care as they serve the masses.

Of a weekend the resort lets out its facilities to daytrippers so don't expect to a) get a parking space or b) get near the pool (though the pools are usually rammed most days anyway and are quite small in size).

Nightly entertainment is pretty awful, all set next to a "funfair", in the outdoors. Expect ludicrous tribute acts and booming sound that can be heard all round the resort.

Aesthetically it's quite beautiful with a lake running through it, palm trees (don't get the boat to the beach as it's less than 10 minutes' walk) and is pretty well maintained. Alcudia is, after all, a beautiful part of the world, but this resort makes you feel like the cattle you are treated as.

I wasn't impressed with the cleaning service either which turns up at about 8am every other morning so if you sleep longer than this (i.e. if you don't have kids), your room won't get cleaned. This wasn't a particular issue for us (other than people coming into your room first thing in the morning) but we did run out of toilet roll and towels.

For a family holiday, I'm sure it's great (though there are lots of extra things I can imagine kids wanting to spent the Euros on when you leave the resort). If you don't have kids and don't want to be bothered by endless swarms and tribes, leave well alone. Still I can't imagine how anyone could think it was good value for money with the quality of food, drink and entertainment (and total lack of security - literally anyone could just walk in).

Room Tip: Don't go if you've not got kids...
