We stayed as a family of 6 (2 adults 4 kids) in 2 rooms for 9 nights from 31/7/17. Booked with jet2 over a year ago and requested the rooms to be high up, close together and quiet as 2 of our kids are only 3 and 6 months. We arrived at 12.30 at night after almost missing the transfer, if you travel with jet2 exit the airport by door D or you will be a long way from your buses
Anyway when we arrived the lifts were broken, rooms were not even on the same floor and our sofa bed wasnt made up, not the best start but luckily that was the worst bit over and the guy on reception did help us up the stairs. We were offered the chance to meet the manager in the morning to see if we could change rooms but once morning came and we had had to unpack alot when we arrived for the kids we decided it probably wasnt worth it really.
We were half board so we met for bfast in the morning, didnt seem to be many people at breakfast it was pleasant enough but not the choice you would get at a bigger hotel. There is a cooked bfast and basic pastries and biscuits, fruit and toast, cereal and yoghurt. It was fine for an adult or non fussy kids. Ours are fussy when abroad and tend not to eat that much so i don't feel we got our moneys worth with half board but thats down to fussy eaters. Evening meal was a small choice but again nice food a salad selection, a selection of tapas and 2 or 3 choices of main. Chef had meat or fish to cook to order every night. There was a bbq night and paella night. There are so many choices to eat out in cala d'or but its not cheap which is why we opted for half board. Plus we were weaning so i took Tupperware to put the food from the evening meal in to take to our room and blend up for lunch the following day. No problem with this theres enough suitable food. Theres lots of highchairs too.
The pool area is lovely the main reason i booked this hotel this and the location. Its just right for my 8 and 7 year old to go in alone and up to the bar and to the toilets etc without someone being with them. Everthings laid out great and easy access. Mondays and thursdays the inflatable croc comes out, friday was the floating carpet the other days we either missed or didnt take part. Animation team were lovely doing the dance before aft activities Evening entertainment we usually dont stay in the hotel theres a small bouncy castle every night. And we saw the pop night. Honestly it wasnt our cup of tea, great effort but it was mediocre. But thats our preference. Theres many things to do in cala dor and we never get chance to do it all so we dont like to stay in at night unless its a Michael jackson tribute.
Now a couple of bad points, sunbeds, no joke people go down as early as 4a.m to put towels down. Now normally we go to the beach in the morning and pool after lunch and have always found it works well as theres usually a bit of a swap over. Not here, those towels stay there all day no beds become free at all. So after day 1 we realised we couldn't have 4 kids and nowhere to sit all aft. So i went down at 7 the next day, most beds gone, 6 the day after and again most beds gone. Now due to noisy neighbours i was up at 5 the day after so i popped down and bumped into loads of people doing the same so no joke thats the time you need to head down. Not good.
Noise also drove me mad. Not the entertainment people in their apartments above scraping furniture. Next door slamming cupboards. Talking loudly in the halls pounding up and down. Not the hotels fault but one night i laid with my headphones on full volume and could still hear it, loudly. Very unrelaxing. I averaged about 3 hrs sleep a night i was shattered at the end of the holiday. That said i would come back but i would want to be in block b on the top floor. Our rooms were 220 and 115. Rooms themselves were well equipped and a decent size. Balconys were huge. It would be useful to provide highchairs in the rooms if an infant was in. I didnt enquire at reception but we really struggled without one.
All staff were lovely at this hotel, friendly and helpful. On our last day they kept baby food and milk all day in their fridge. Luggage rooms were good and shower rooms. The hotel is very clean and location is great. I recommend to families and i would return if i could get quieter rooms and closer together. To anyone else with a large family like us it is really hard work living seperately for a week or 2 but we had 2 very young kids. Im undecided though whether a villa is more for us as i do like to be able to sleep more at night.
For days out we recommend mondrago bay and its easier by bus as you get there much earlier than the starfish boat, you wont get sunbeds if you arrive by boat. Its very expensive when there take as much food as possible.

Just returned from a 2 week stay at the Cala Dor Playa Apartments and it was just brilliant. I could not fault anything bad about the place

Check in : We had a late check in at around 2 o'clock in the morning. The receptionist was a nice pleasant man.

Bar : The bar at the pool was nice and big with lots of seating. The drink in the hotel is very expensive (so bring ur own drinks and snacks to the pool) and service could be a bit slow if it got anyway busy.

Sun beds: If u wanted a sunbed with an umbrella u would have to get up at about 6 o'clock. Some people went then early to get sun beds with umbrellas and would only come down to the pool for an hour or so and then leave but still reserve the beds or some people might not come down to the pool till about 3:30 which was quite annoying.

Room: We stayed in room 218 in block A which was nice and quite and shady for when ur out on the balcony. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with a collinder, microwave, toaster and nespreso machine.

Location: The nearest shop was a 2 minute walk down the road that had a lovely little bakery in it. There was also a amusement park with a racing track, bouncy castles and trampoline and a nice bar. There are some lovely restaurant in the centre .But try and avoid la bodega due to its terrible service.

I overall really enjoyed my stay at the Cala dor playa apartments and will return in the future.

Just returned from the Cala Dor Playa and can't say enough good about these apartments. We stayed in Room 218 which is a nice quiet room-we had requested a pool view but there are actually only a small number of apartments with a pool view and in hindsight this apartment was perfect as it was quiet in the evenings and was also nice and shady(when you have had enough of the sun)

Positive points:
Spotlessly clean and excellent and very polite cleaning staff
Staff at pool bar/snack bar are also very friendly
Animation team are second to none-loads for kids and adults to do during the day including aqua aerobics for the adults which is really good
Supermarket within 5 minute walk-directly across from a go-cart track and trampoline and bouncy castle area for children
Close to 2 lovely beaches
Walking distance to a vast amount of restaurants-ate in a different restaurant every night and still didn't visit them all!!
Negatives(nothing to do with these apartments but just for info):
1. Only had one bad experience in the restaurants in the town-avoid La Bodega-the service was horrific-everyones meals coming out at different times(after a very long delay)-the starter was then thrown on the table after that. When we complained the staff were very rude. Avoid-there is lots of other nice places.
2. We booked a trip to Aqualand via the rep in the hotel-we had a great day except for the fact that the price and quality of the food was horrendous!! I felt like I had been mugged! We ordered 4 meals from a stand(similar to McD's or BK). We should have been on our guard as no prices were displayed. When we went to pay , we were asked for 63.60!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't have to pay then in the restaurants at night time where the food was being handed up to me. They have a captive audience and the children were starving so we had no choice but to pay. What made it worse(if it could get any worse) was the found was disgusting-burnt and greasy!!! I felt like I had to eat it as we had paid a fortune for it. On the way home, the children were thirsty and as we had a bus ride ahead of us back to the apartments I said they could get a small bottle of orange each-7.80 for those!!!
If you are going to Aqualand-please bring your own food and as much drinks as you can carry.

Tip for apartments themselves: the price of drinks/alcohol at the pool bar as very high. We purchased our drinks/beers etc in the local supermarket down the road which was a fraction of the price
Get up early if you want a sun-bed(as like anywhere during peak season it is a bit of a rat race for these)

Already considering going back next year as I honestly think these apartments are hard to beat!!!!

Room Tip: Room 218 was nice and quiet and shady in the evenings.

We stayed here for a week as a family and loved it. The staff are friendly and the Animation team put on loads of different activities for both adults and kids, including table tennis and Pool competitions, archery, rifle shooting, water polo, aerobics, and they always had a smile on their faces. Every evening there was a different cabaret style show and mini disco which although not our thing I could see that it would appeal. Food was great, lots for breakfast and lunches during the day reasonably priced and very tasty. Drinks were a little on the high side but the cocktails were really strong so worth a bit extra!
The sunbed 'situation' was a bit of a pain but I'm not sure what can be done. Basically if you wanted a sunlounger under a shade you had to be up 6.30am to chuck your towels down. If you weren't bothered or were happy to tag on under someone else's when the sun got really hot you could chuck a towel down around half 8 and still bag a sun lounger. Sometimes there were still spare loungers in the afternoon stacked up but usually by mid afternoon they were gone. You kind of have to accept it and go with it or you end up missing out. It does get really annoying when people get 4 loungers under the shade but clear off for the day, leaving some families struggling in the harsh sun with no shade. As someone else says, not sure how you can stop this. The hotel is a few minutes from both beaches and there are short cuts either out the front and by the side of the carpark or out the back and down some steps. Well worth searching out.

Beautiful little apartment hotel in a quiet area, only a short walk from the rear of the hotel to Cala Esmeralda and Gala Gran. The marina is 20 mins walk away and the main shopping/restaurant area is 10 mins.
We had a superior apartment on the third floor for our family (2 adults and 2 teenage daughters). The apartment was clean and well equipped for our needs. The bed in the bedroom was comfy but the sofa beds were a little firm. Our balcony looked out over the car park unfortunately but we could see the mountains in the distance. The air conditioning was a bonus due to the temperature being in the mid 30's. We were without air conditioning for one evening and morning due to a breakdown but after a phone call to reception the fault was fixed after a few hours.
The pool area is quite nice. As previous reviews state - people reserve sun beds with towels early in the morning so it's not possible to just have a couple of hours by the pool mid morning or afternoon unless you are happy to sit at a table. I'm not one for laying by the pool the whole day so it wasn't too much of an issue for us. I don't know how the hotel management can tackle this problem. We spent one day by the pool managing to bag the last four stacked sun beds and putting them in the garden behind the apartments (no space by pool). There was definitely a disproportionate amount of people in the pool to sun beds reserved. One family had reserved a group of prime real estate sun beds early in the morning - stacked high with pool floats and towels but didn't actually turn up to the pool until 3.30pm! Anyway enough ranting about sun bed hogging!
We booked half board and the breakfast was lovely. Fresh juice, nice coffee, fruits, range of breads, cereals/yoghurts, continental options and cooked. The waiting staff were friendly as was the chef who would cook omelettes to order. Dinner was served between 7pm and 9pm. There was plenty of choice for meat eaters. For vegetarians it is a little more complicated as dishes aren't fully labelled. My vegetarian daughter did struggle on some days. The chef is available to freshly cook a piece of meat/fish for you if you want. There were plenty of Spanish tapas 'type' things to try in the starters area. Drinks are an average price - 2 pints of beer and 2 large cokes came to €15.
We didn't eat from the snack bar menu so can't comment on it. To be honest we were all a bit fed up with the evening buffet by the end of our stay but that's usually how it is going half board.
Entertainment is put on each night but again this isn't our thing so can't really comment on the quality. Activities for children are put on throughout the day - again can't comment on the quality as my children are in their late teens. The little children seemed to be enjoying themselves however. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Cala d'Or is beautiful.
