Not the cheapest all inclusive I've stayed at but a lovely hotel with a really friendly feeling. The room I would say is nothing more than a two star with a 32 inch flatscreen. Very clean and had a roomy balcony and nice bathroom. Food overall was excellent, always something for everyone. No safe option with the childrens option as there isn't one. The fact there are no kids for us was a major plus ( done that ). I don't think I have stayed anywhere before where the guests were so friendly. Perfect location, I'm sure I'd go again

The hotel is in a great location just across the road from the beach and main centre of Cala D'or.

We arrived around 11PM at night and our first impressions were not good, the reception had an aroma which was the same every night, obviously from the evening meal, the red velvet reception desk and furniture is a dated and the doors on the outside of the lifts quite annoying.

We enquired about hiring a safe and were told that the safes were not in the rooms but in a room behind reception (the craziest thing I've every heard of, why thy couldn't put the safe's in the wardrobe like any other hotel does I don't know!!, it was most inconvenient that we had to keep going down to reception to put things in the safe)

The carpet and decor on the corridors is old and there are some stains on the carpets and the pictures on the walls are interesting!!!, these areas don't look like they have been touched since the hotel opened.

Anyway lucky for us our room appeared to be one of the modernised rooms, i.e. it had laminate floors and a flat screen t.v. the furniture was the usually style wooden furniture and the looked like it had been freshly painted, to be fair the rooms were good, the bathroom had been modernised and the usual toiletries and hairdryer were provided, there was a small fridge, air conditioning, phone, there were quite a lot of draws and wardrobe space, the balcony had no light, you could not see over the concrete wall if you were sat on the plastic chairs, also due to the curvature of the patio's there wasn't much privacy as your neighbour could see right onto your balcony if there were stood admiring the view, not that there is much of a view if you are at the back of the hotel.

Our room had an interconnecting approx 6ft wall in the corridor and you could hear everything that was going on next door, conversations, showers, toilets etc!!!, luckily there is another door to your bedroom so you did get some privacy, not sure if everyroom was like this or we were just unfortunate.

Maid service and towel change was everyday, the rooms were very clean.

We were only staying on a bed and breakfast basis so cannot comment on the evening meal or all inclusive aspect but juding from he breakfast I would imagine that there is not a great deal of choice in the evening due to the lack of space in the dining room, somebody had posted on the Cala d'or forum that there was not dress code but from the information I read at the hotel long trousers were expected but I can't imagine in the slightest this was enforced.

I cannot say I found the breakfast experience a pleasure as it can be at other hotels we have been to, it did a job but I didn't get up thinking ooh what shall I have today, basically they had the basics but there wasn't much choice things, due to it not being a big dinning rooms also the things they had were not of the best quality, the croissants and jams etc were the cheapest of brands but everything was edible, the staff in the morning were not the friendliest you basically got nothing out of them, tea and coffee is from machines and the coffee was quite nice.

The sunbed situation was a nightmare - it seems if your not in the queue from about 7AM then you can forget it, not my idea of of a holiday getting up a 7AM to fight for a sunbed, there are quite a few of those big bed cabana? things, in my opinion they are a waste of space, literally!!! who wants to go on one of those, he hotel do not enforce the warnings about reserving sunbeds which is very annoying, we tried to get sunbeds at different times of the morning and couldn't and there were never more than a handful of people out there, the beauty treatments are also done in one of these around the pool area, again who wants a treatment around the pool area??? and presumably if it's bad weather then the treatments aren't on offer? The spa consisted of a tiny whirpool and sauna's, and the gym was basically a treadmill, a bike, some free weights and one weight machine, there seemed to be a few bits of entertainment on a the hotel such has pool aerobics, learn italian etc, at night the entertainment took place outside, there was a stage near the pool, we didn't watch any of the shows but they didn't seem to be great, and then there's the rush for the lifts at 11PM which must be when the all inclusive ends, we didn't spend any time in the hotel in the day to the fact we couldn't get a sunbed for the whole of the 10 days we were there and we are n't ones for staying in the hotel at night either but found it comically if we happened to be coming back around 11PM, note if you are staying at the back of the hotel then the noise from neighbouring hotels is very loud they had karaoke and entertainment etc on but it ended no later than 12pm.

We booked we Alpha Rooms and cannot complain as we only paid £750 for 10 days bed and breakfast in July which is good for a 4* but think we were conned due to the total refurbishement statement on the Thompson website, If I had booked with Thompson then I would not have been happy and would have complained.

To sum up basically the sunbed issue really spoilt things for us, we prefer to stay around the pool but had no option but to go to the beach everyday and pay 12.50 euros everyday for a sunbed, the beaches are quite small and if you didn't have a sunbed the beach was very crowded, you had to climb over people and their belongings to get into the sea.

Good Points
Close to the Beach
Close to the main resort, taxi's, shops, restaurants etc
Clean
Good value for money

Bad Points
Cannot get a sunbed
Safes not in bed rooms
Food is basic
Hotel in need of refurbishment

This was our 2nd visit to this hotel but there were a few things that could be updated. Our room was a bit to drab, although we couldn't fault the view over the pool area, and the towels could do with renewing as they looked very tired and worn out. The sunbeds could have done with some new matresses as the ones that were there were scruffy looking. The carpets in the hallways were dirty grubby looking and could do with changing (or cleaning). The hotel staff were very helpful though and made you feel welcome. The dining room and food were ok. Overal this hotel could do with a good lick of paint and a makeover. the "Makems"

We first went to the Tucan 6 years ago when it was a family hotel and it was very nice. This June we returned without the children for my husbands 40th. The rooms do need updating as they have not changed however, the hotel is clean. The food is the usual buffet style you get on all inclusive but the fish was really good and was always hot. Bottles of wine with all our meals. For what we paid for 4 nights was fantastic value for money. The location is the best as you are in the main town and close to beaches Cala Gran, Cala D'Or and Esmeralda and Ferrera are within walking distance as is the marina. Our favourite restaurant is Acurius, prebook and ask for a table outside will be the highlight of your holiday. We have been to Cala D'Or many times and if you want a cheap break away from the kids, this is great. A lot of people were older but everyone was really friendly.
