We have just returned from our Easter Break at this hotel and it is probably the nicest holiday we've had. The hotel is in a quiet location set in beautiful gardens - it's spectacular, the customer service is excellent, hotel facilities are great and the food is amazing. The hotel and staff truely deserve their 5 star rating. Cala Millor is a lovely resort with a great beach. I would definitely recommend this hotel and resort, you will have a perfect holiday!

I will definitely go back to this hotel. The food in the buffet rest was extremly good. I am longing to go back. The rooms could be nicer, but are ok. The spa and poolarea was very nice too.
I like the hotel with the bars and drink areas. One night per week they had cavas for everyone with snacks, and it is fun to dress up for that evening. Very good Entertainment, with shows and Music.
The food was superb, with seafood, lot of meat and exotic fruits, etc. Very satisfied.

Room Tip: The suites in front of the poolarea was nice. It was not so luxury, more like a 4 star hotel.

The Hipocampo Palace certainly lives up to its five star rating. A lovely looking building, with stunning marble halls and even the rooms are marble and travertine.

The split lodging works well and the two separate sections are linked via a tunnel under the road. Very discreet and cleverly done.

Other people have mentioned the lack of English spoken by staff, they were right to an extent but at the end of the day it's not difficult to learn a few Spanish words before going! We didn't have any problems at all and speak a tiny amount. The hotel is very much geared up for a German market, again not an issue, it means that of you want the type of holiday where you aren't mixing with "typical" English tourists then this place is great for you. It's well organised for families and couples alike.

The food is out of this world, absolutely stunning. The selection is fantastic but beware you won't be able to move after dessert!

Entertainment is good, we enjoyed lots of varied acts and of course they have the typical mini disco for the kids before the main event.

Stayed in this hotel with my wife for 6 days just before Easter 2015. I have to say we were not disappointed with the service, cleaning, food and facilities. Being used to a sea-view on previous stays in Cala Millor, we were slightly dismayed at the wooded gardens view from our balcony window. We could hear the waves crashing on the beach, but could not view the sunrise which was, as it turned out only a minor thing. Access to the peninsula and other resorts within walking and cycling range to the south and Cala Bona to the north were as ever fantastic, as we are keen walkers. We also hired bikes for a day and cycled some 5-6 miles up and down the coast. The only key factor which anyone staying in this hotel needs to be aware of is that it is basically run exclusively for German holiday makers. This is reflected in the food on offer at breakfast and dinner and primary default language spoken by reception and serving staff. For the first 3 days at least, my wife and I were the only non Germans in the hotel. This made socialising with other residents somewhat limited as many Germans we met in the lift or breakfast/dinner had very little English and could not or would not make the effort to chat. I did my best with pigeon German which did not extend much further than hello/goodbye etc.

All that said, we had a great time and would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a private break, rest and excellent food.

Room Tip: No cold air conditioning in March/April. No see view, which is obscured by mature trees to the front of the hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the Hipocampo Palace for a long weekend in October to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. From the moment we booked the hotel until the time we got on our transfer to the airport, we experienced true 5 star service and would book to stay again in a heartbeat.

Service
As a matter of habit we always email the hotel to confirm our booking as soon as reservation is made. Most of the time someone from the hotel would reply with a generic email within a day. Some do not respond at all, of course. But Hipocampo Palace replied within a couple of hours and requested to know what time we would arrive and by what means. At the time we thought it was just a formality, but we were impressed by their attention to detail throughout our stay. From the welcome drinks at check-in, to helping to celebrate our anniversary and knowing when our transfer was coming to collect us. These little things make all the difference. I read reviews regarding the lack of English speaking staff at reception. We did not encounter this and felt they spoke good English and were always friendly and efficient. The cleaning staff was always ready to say a friendly “hola”, which is also a nice touch. We had some issues with the air conditioning (nothing was wrong, we just didn’t know how to operate it) which we called reception about and someone came to help us within 5 minutes.

Room
Good sized room. Bathrobes and slippers provided but no kettle (we brought our own). Separate WC and bathroom. The bed was firm but comfortable. TV channels mainly German.

Food
Definitely the best hotel food we have had. We had very high expectations due to the reviews and photos. I must say the reviews and photos do not do it justice. The restaurant is buffet style, and it is not a big buffet. The emphasis here is on quality, not quantity. Only small amounts are placed out and servers replenish continuously. The highlight is the grilling station that cooks fresh meats on demand (several types of fish, steak, chicken, pork/lamb chops) in the evening which turns into an omelette/egg station at breakfast. Friday night is Gala night where they grill more interesting meats such as quail, deer, lobster, monkfish etc. The starter station with tapas and cold cuts was always a delightful display and the desserts were always decadent.

Clientele
Mostly German. It is possible we were the only non German guests at the hotel during our stay. We got along fine with the other guests and were able to converse with them in English (our German is non-existent). It was amusing whenever we were approached and were assumed to be German too. Mainly older couples and families stay here.

Location
The Hipocampo Palace is at the end of Cala Millor. We found this to be a great location. It is quiet, but only 5 minutes walk to the action and there are 2 supermarkets (Lidl and Mercadona) nearby as well.

Activities
The hotel has a beautiful free foam outdoor pool across the road in the suites section and a bright and airy indoor pool with spa services attached. There are lots of organised activities at the hotel including guided bike tours and local market visits. Since we were only there for a long weekend we just did our own thing. We rented a bike and rode to Cala Bona and Sa Coma. And on the Saturday we took a catamaran to Cala Ratjada to visit the market. Would recommend both these activities, but maybe not the 2-seater 4-wheeler “bikes”. They are very heavy to ride and maybe we should have rented 2 normal bikes instead!

Suggestions
Although it is only a nominal charge, I think it would be better to add the safe usage fee to the room rate, since most people will want to use the safe. Our room was only on the 3rd floor and quite central, however the wi-fi was sometimes quite weak. Another small suggestion is I would like to see oatmeal served at breakfast.

We had a great time at Hipocampo Palace and we look forward to staying again soon. Next time we will bring the family!
