Club room with balcony overlooking the ocean was great - regular cleaning, spotless on arrival and decent space inside. Hotel itself is fine - lots of quiet public space with views and broadband access (none in rooms: at least not ours). Pool area always had free spaces, loads of complimentary towels and well kept changing rooms. Entertainment (aqua fit, town tours, Levada walks and evening music in the bar) was also available and the guy in charge of it all doubled as a kind of rep - friendly, great English and helpful. Food was plentiful and varied but often bland and the evening meals were routinely disappointing - fish especially was often overlooked to the point of leatheriness but meat and veg were also often grim. Wine seemed very expensive for the quality on offer. Local bars are doing completely decent tuna and salad platters for 6-10 euros so next time we’d stick to B&B (and maybe bring our own tea and coffee too). Machico itself was very relaxing, pretty and quiet; an incredibly short transfer from the airport and unbelievably free from the noise of planes (given that the runway is practically next door to the hotel)! A taxi to the Canical tunnel (the start of a number of Levada routes) is around 8 euros.

I think this is the one of the only hotels in Machico! It is huge and less than 5 minutes drive from the airport - I think it is a cheek taxi drivers charging 10 euros. There is a irregular bus service for 3 euro by the petrol station if you are on a budget but check the timetable from reception. The staff weren't too friendly or didn't go out of their way for you. The room was clean and basic but very dated - I didn't have any tea/coffee making facilities - you have to upgrade to a Club room for this.
The food was surprisingly nice but could do with a few more options. There is loads of salad for dinner with only 2 main options and a lot of veg and potatoes. Drinks obviously aren't included with dinner (half board) not even water or softs drinks. Breakfast is lovely with juice/tea/coffee and lots of fruit and cooked options. They have daily activities such as Water polo, Portuguese lessons, aqua aerobics, bingo but they only go ahead if they have enough interest. We went to their piano bar one evening to see the live singer which was amazing but it was a shame no one else was there! There isn't much to do around Machico - Funchal is where it is all happening and you can get a taxi for 30 euros in 30 minutes.

I chose to spend the last night of my Madeira trip here and was glad I did.

Machico is a nice, pleasant and quiet seaside village. There is not much of anything going on in town, but the setting is picturesque and the beach is nice for swimming. The airport is very quick and easy to reach by bus - 10 min journey and very cheap.

The hotel is ugly on the outside and a bit of maze to find your way around on the inside, but I liked the traditional Madeiran styling and the room was very comfortable.

Staff were uneffusive but ok. I enjoyed the food during my brief stay and the bar was pleasant enough to hang out in.

The pool was fine and the views are good.

We enjoyed a lovely break in July 2017 at Dom Pedro Madeira in Machico. This was not our first visit to Madeira but it was our first visit to this hotel. Our first impression was that the architect had captured the colours and textures of Madeiran home life and culture beautifully in the building, for example, the basket weave ceiling panels.

On arrival, staff at reception were not immediately responsive being young and new and did not give us the correct information, despite our use of Portuguese rather than English which we thought might help. That aside, our room was perfectly good, clean and well-appointed and housekeeping was excellent during our stay.

The restaurant is beautifully appointed but the all-inclusive food package was not impressive and did not reflect standards in similar hotels on the island. For example, there were no Madeiran specialities on Madeira night, such as, espetada. Conversely, if you are allergic to birds, the birds of prey were inescapable.

The museum in Machico is excellent but is not promoted well. The signs need to be improved to encourage visitors to find it as we walked past on several occasions. There are lots of places to eat in Machico and the beach is excellent.

We love Madeira and will visit the island again.

Hotel clean but very dated. No comfortable seating in social areas. Staff could do with customer care course! Not many Brits so staff seamed to ignore us!! Entertainment repeated same songs, even with a different artist !
Might seam that I'm moaning but there is a certain standard that you expect when the Hotel rates itself as a 4*.

Room Tip: top floor, if you want it quieter.
