As my husband and I had booked through an agent, and having given them our priorities this hotel was perfectly located. It was 2 minutes walk from the sea. It had an outdoor swimming pool with plenty of sunbeds with a poolside bar. Many of the occupants were obviously full board (wearing their white bands), however, we were bed and breakfast which worked well for us. It left us free to roam the local bars/restaurants all of which were within a 10/15 minute walk. The hotel is only 5 minutes drive from the hotel, so after an early flight we arrived at the hotel by 10.30am expecting to leave our luggage in the foyer. In fact our room was ready and waiting and we were able to settle in straight away. The reception staff were very welcoming as were most of the staff we met. There was just one incident at the Piano bar when I suspect the barman was fed up with over indulgent guests pukking up over the tables. As I said, this was only 1 incident. Our room was situated to the side of the hotel so our view was of the hillside where we could watch the planes soar out of what looked like the top of the hillside, quite extraordinary. But we weren't there to stay in our room so it suited us. As a previous reviewer pointed out, the beds were a little hard, but what I found uncomfortable were the pillows which were made out of deconstructed foam (very lumpy). Again, someone mentioned that the air conditioning was inadequate, DITTO..... we travelled there in September so not the height of the summer but still it couldn't cope.. We did mention to reception that the extractor fan in the bathroom wasn't working, but it didn't get repaired whilst we were there. The phone in the room didn't work either, not a major problem really. The cleanliness in our rooms and public areas was excellent. The food at breakfast was very good with a selection to suit most people. Bar prices were on a par with a good local restaurant, so not excessive. All in all an enjoyable visit to Madeira and Machico is a lovely part of the island. As another reviewer commented, not quite a 4 star in my opinion.

We have just returned from a lovely week in this hotel . Great room fantastic views , excellent staff hard working courteous and helpful . Half board disappointing did not include water had to be paid for and no coffee after eve meal . Food generally acceptable but not spectacular ,apart from salads , fruit and great bread . No fish or meat grilled or fresh food cooked at any meal. Barbecue poorly advertised 3 nightly but only happened one night because of low take up . Shame as this was best fresh cooked fish and meat we'd eaten all week with a lovely atmosphere . Pool deep sea water , mostly suitable for diving school and is apparently being redone . Really lovely dining area with great views over bay and lounge similarly well appointed but with limited outside access to lovely grounds . Missed opportunity for patios and double doors being opened . Would return due to position near to town but on sea front .

The restaurant could have provided a better and more varied breakfast selection. The food for evening dinner could have been significantly better than was offered. More umbrellas at the poolside were a requirement. Some staff were friendly but not all.

We have just returned from two weeks all inclusive at the dom pedro l have never been to such an awful hotel in all the years we have been travelling abroad. The whole hotel is dark and dingy. No where to sit and have a quiet drink and chat because the way it is set out the so called evening entertainment could be heard in reception, the bar and the piano bar ,there are steps everywhere so anyone with walking problems would only get as far as reception.main bar not open during the day so you have to go to the pool bar for coffee/drinks out in the rain on two occasions for us then nowhere to sit as the rain comes through the straw umbrellas.there was supposed to be a lunchtime bbq at the pool we had two the first 2 days very nice but then a notice went up saying during to adverse weather conditions the bbq would be cancelled we never saw one again.there are notices around the hotel informing us about the activities aquagym, areobics and other things did not see one of these take place during the whole fortnight.not good for all inclusive. This hotel seems to be running on minimum staff and they are overworked making them miserable. They do no currency exchange and you dont get a keycard you get a key on a very large key fob,l cant remember when l last had one of them.breakfast is fun watching them all making their packed lunches and putting them in their bags,on a number of occasions we saw All inclusive people getting drinks for non all inclusive people.l might add not english but am annoyed because we are paying for this. If you enjoy dogs barking 24/7 and cats in the resturant and round the pool this is the place for you. Machico is a lovely little town with good selection of bars and resturants.we paid a lot of money for this holiday and were very disappointed. Given it 1 star as the food was edible although not very hot. I would advise anyone to avoid this place .

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing Dom Pedro Madeira as well as for your comments.

We regret that the hotel did not meet your satisfaction. Please be informed that the hotel has 2 bars, The Pool Bar which in the summer works from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. and the Piano Bar which is opened in the evenings. During Winter period (November to April) Piano Bar is opened from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

With regards to the Barbeque, and as you were informed, due to unstable weather conditions we had to cancel for a few days however we are pleased to informed that weather has in the meantime improved and BBQ is operational.

Concerning the animation program, unfortunately and due to unforeseen circumstances, our animator was unable to make the activities.

Nevertheless, we hope you enjoyed the Island and please do not hesitate to contact us could we be of any assistance.

Kind regards
Dom Pedro Team
