This is a beautiful 9kms easy walk with the ocean on both sides of the trail. You can also find a beautiful little beach close to the Sao Lourenco point so you may want to take some towels with you.

While Madeira is better known for its mountain-side levada hikes, you should not miss out on Ponta dSL. Set on the island's east coast, the hike takes you into an unreal savannah-cum-cliffs landscape. Depending on your condition you may expect to hike 3-4hrs. Good shoes are highly advisable. The cottage at the trail end seems to be closed on most days and does not sell any food anyway so bring your own supplies. If you are lucky there might be an ice cream truck at the trail head parking by the time you return.

very crowded. better do one of the harder hikes because there will be less people. some parts are like ant-streets, people anywhere.
No shade. It takes you about 2 hours maximum in both directions, the view point in the end is worth one or two pictures.
to crowded for us.

One of the must-do-walks of Madeira. It's a bout 8 km with 450 m ascent. Since it’s a very nice trail and quite easy, it’s very popular and therefore recommended to start as early as possible if you want to avoid the crowds. I would suggest before 08.00 in the morning. There’s a big parking at the start that quickly fills up during the day.

Great views of the rocky coasts of the eastern-most peninsula on Madeira. There are some small rocky beaches that we did not visit, but take swimming clothes if you want to make this an all-day event.

Alternatively, the sandy beach of Machico is around the corner as well, and you easily combine this walk with an afternoon on the beach.

You can see the GPS version of this hike on Wikiloc if you search for user Pijlmans.

There is adequate parking at the trail head but be aware this is a popular destination so could be busy. The walk is easy to follow but with some strenuous bits, especially the final section after the small visitor centre where there are supposed to be toilets but they were locked on our visit. Also be aware of the weather, both the sun and the wind can be strong here.
