First of all: Great hotel, nice location and rooms in a puristic warm design, with a small balcony, sea & beach view and the greatest "noise" you can hear 24/7: breaking of waves!
With no doubt it's a very good house, with excellent house keeping, good wifi but a really weird international breakfast. Brown bread, baked beans, sausages, mixed with cake, rolls and filter coffee - standard food industry products, with bad, artifical taste. Craftsmanship? Nowhere!
For a hotel which wants to combine "chic & rural life", wants to be a house of identity or is proud of being made with local materials - this is inconsequent. Instead of offering the standard choices, reduce the breakfast like you reduced the architecture of the house. Less is more! Offer a small Madeira-made, Madeira-style breakfast with identity!
The traffic in front of the hotel is really no problem and only local. The hotel offers airport transfer and a shuttle bus service to several destinations, including villages, Funchal, sand beach and several levada walks. Bus and taxi you can also catch in front of the hotel - so there is no need to rent a car at all!
And: You can use the facilities of the Estalagem. Great atmosphere there as well. But I was always happy to come down to the small town and it's beach again. The Hotel da Vila is much more charming.More
