“We loved this place!”
Reviewed 14 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We loved this place! Beautiful setting at the bottom of Eus with great views of the village and the mountains on the other side. We found the house spacious and clean with a host of mod cons and an excellent TV set up with loads of channels. We particularly like the outside with the BBQ and large covered area to eat and drink but the star is the pool and the most comfortable loungers we have ever sat in. All in all, a very lovely and memorable stay. Highly recommended.

“Lack of attention to detail”

Visited La Bergerie for 11 nights June 2015.

On arrival cleaning issues were noted below the level of what was expected.
. All horizontal surfaces required cleaning in the kitchen and bedrooms and this was more than just
settled dust.
. Finger marks on mirrors and low level vertical glass panels.
. The agent admitted that the master bedroom had not been cleaned at all other than to change
the sheets
. Cups had brown stains inside, plates and glasses required washing to remove marks that were
more than dishwasher streaks.
. Water left in coffee machine
. Greasy pizza boxes left in the waste paper for fire lighting basket.
. Pile of wall dust on the landing.
. During the stay whilst using the floor duster it was pushed under the bed in the second en suite
and a quantity of dust and fluff were dragged out which had accumulated over quite a period.
. Oven required cleaning.
. The barbecue was extremely dirty and the first intended barbecue had to be cancelled until it was
cleaned.
The above are basic cleaning issues which should automatically be addressed after every let. The agent explained that there had been a lot to do after the previous let and they had to get an extra cleaner and they did not have time to do it all. They were aware that our ETA was not until 1900 hours which gave 9 hours for proper cleaning.
Other issues.
. The shelves in the refrigerator were broken and taped together with duct tape. These would not
stay in position when items were placed on them and we did suffer breakages when the
shelves fell out on opening the door. The agent stated that they were not broken but were badly
designed and the tape was there to keep them in place
. Despite following the instructions in the folder and trying various other options we could not get
the English channels on the TV for two days until sorted out by the agent.
. Water leaking through the ceiling requiring the use of a container to catch it. The agent stated that
this had been an ongoing problem and thought it was fixed. We had the option of putting up with
it or having a plumber in to take up the floorboards and have one bathroom out of use. We chose
the former
. The shower head adjuster in the second en suite was broken and would not stay in the required
position on the riser bar and the shower door did not close properly.
. The bath screen in the family bathroom moved on the wall and barely touched the rim of the bath
and care had to be taken not to catch it and knock it over the bath edge and allow water to escape
underneath.
. The master en suite is not a full en suite as the toilet for this was a separate room on the landing
with no hand washing facilities. The shower door in this en suite also did not close properly and
on one occasion fell off due to the runners being broken. This was potentially dangerous.
. When the upstairs toilets were flushed brown water and particles of faeces sometimes collected
in the downstairs toilet requiring this to also be flushed.
. A number of floor tiles were cracked, some with sharp edges which could cut bare feet.
. The website clearly states that bed linen is changed weekly but this did not happen. The agent
stated that this only applies to two week lettings but we were only just short of this and it does
not indicate this exception on the website.
The agent stated that the some parts of the property are due for refurbishment but if so this should
be reflected in the advertising. The agent said that other people looked through these problems which suggests we should have ignored them. Each of these issues are minor in themselves and could have easily been rectified making this negative report unnecessary.
La Bergerie fell far short of the description on the website which is a shame for what is potentially a
lovely property in a beautiful setting.
Eus itself is a charming village but does not have a village shop. The nearest place for provisions is the supermarket a 5 minute car ride away.
