This place is absolutely beautiful. Everything is mostly old-fashioned, but in a good way. We stayed there for a couple of days over Memorial Day weekend. Got a great deal at the capitoldeal.com.

The service was excellent throughout the stay. Checking in was a breeze and we were given a nice clean room. There are a lot of things to do here, so make sure you check the activity schedule for the time you are there. The resort IMO doesn't have a good mix of restaurants. Most places server only American fare, so you may get bored of that soon. There is a cafe on property from where you can buy water/fruits/quick meals etc. For good drinks, we thought the lobby bar was better than President's lounge. The breakfast at the main dining room was amazing! definitely do breakfast if not dinner. Another fun thing is the 'afternoon tea' - every day at 3 pm they server tea and light snacks in the lobby. We loved it!

Activity wise, we took a soak in the Jefferson Pools - hot water. It was awesome and its a must do. We also did the horseback ride. My wife was scared at first, but the people there took good care and the horses were very well behaved for the ride. There is a nice outdoor pool also on property with a separate section for kids. Can also get drinks at the pool. The indoor pool also looked great.

Overall, the place was not a big hit immediately, but it grew on us very quickly. Definitely recommend it for a relaxing getaway for couples or the whole family.

The facility, service and food were first rate. Yes, it is a little expensive, but for a special occasion, this is a great choice.

The Homestead is not the easiest place to get to, but we've been coming back here for about 20 years. The golf courses are first class, the spa is wonderful and, well, we always eat too much. We particularly like the main dining room for breakfast and dinner. Where else can you get homemade doughnuts or anything else you would care to eat for breakfast? Dinner features a dance floor where old and young alike can show off their ballroom dancing skills between dinner courses. It's jackets for the men at dinner, but it's also nice to see families all dressed up for a change. The resort is in the midst of a major renovation and the jury is still out on how it will all turn out. We will miss some of the aspects of the old place, but some of the new additions should be great. I guess it's all about keeping up with the times.

Room Tip: Ask to be in the old part of the hotel--the tower or the west wing, the rooms are more charming. The...

We appreciate the comments regarding your recent visit to The Homestead. Our resort takes pride in providing enjoyable activities for all guests as well as delicious dining options. As you noticed, we are currently in the midst of a $25 million renovation and expansion which includes updating our existing facilities and adding new amenities. The pools at our new Allegheny Springs water attraction are now open and the lazy river and water slides, as well as a miniature golf course and spa garden, will open later this summer. We hope you return soon to experience all of these wonderful upgrades.

this was my first time at this resort, spent 4 nights here in the older eastern wing of the hotel on the ground floor. My room was fairly big, as was the bathroom, and I had a nice outdoor patio area with chairs that was semi-private. As other reviewers noted the interiors of the hotel need to be freshened up, the place is more shabby than shabby chic. Air conditioner was from the beginning of time, and clearly did not remove mopisture fomr the air. I had a damp bathing suit which was hanging right near the unit for three days and it never did dry out. There were areas or the hotel, particularly the long hallways to the spa and indoor pool, and the areas off the mail lobby which seemed ot have no air conditioning or circulation at all. This place is definetly geared towards a more "mature" crowd and moneyed folks.

As far as the food, it was hit or miss. The hotel needs to look at its dining program overall and make improvements in both the service and the available options. For example, I dined at the Casons grille for lunch one day and had a cheeseburger and fries, similar to what you would get at a rural NJ diner.. The beef patty was so skinny it was laughable when the server asked how I wanted it cooked. There is no way you could make a thin burger like this anyway other than rare or well done. Had dinner at the Casino grille one night with 5 others, had a reservation, was promptly seated, Drink and food orders taken and then NOTHING for over an hour. we repeatedly flagged our server down and were told it would be any time now for the food, drinks finally came after 30 minutes. Another 30 minutes passed and still no food. The place was not busy, in fact it was nearly empty so this was inexplicable. we hunted down the manager and she just said we were not the only ones experieincing this service breakdown tonite! soon after we asked for another manager and this time, our food arrived. We were served a round of drinks on the house and then manager also comped our desserts. In the end our group was able to laugh about it (given we were sitting drinking cocktails for three hours with no food!) but it was disappointing to say the least. I ate breakfast once in the main dinng room, and as others said it is pricy, $27 plus tax for a buffet. It was delicious, the friut was yummy, eggs and pancakes cooked to order. Maybe if it was $20 I would have raved about it, but this just seems a bit high. if you do not want this expensive buffet, you can get a microwave egg mcmuffin or a pastry in the coffee shop.
There is much to do on and off the property, but almost everything will cost you an arm and a leg. I did an hour in the Jefferson Pools - it was different and worth doing once due to the historical aspect of the place. the fire pits outside at night are great, as is the front porch for drinks in the evening.
The one standout was the staff, who were generally pleasant everywhere I went in the hotel, everyone says hello to you and makes light conversation when appropriate. The housekeeping staff did a great job in my room, and the front desk and conceirge were also excellent.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the lower level with an outdoor patio, my room was lovely, private and quiet.
