Valentine’s Day dinner is, admittedly, a busy time everywhere. Very true for Village Inn Restaurant. Their seafood buffet was as expected: excellent oysters, good steamed shrimp, nice but dry salmon filets, and tasty sides. There was an ample supply of one of the best seafood bisques I have ever tasted. Service, on the other hand, had to be endured with great patience. The only reason I got a cup of coffee was because I shanghaied a waitress with a coffee pot in her hand. My husband had to go to the kitchen to get iced tea. Dessert, included with the meal, was served mid-meal. Coffee refills never were accomplished. Dinner was rich, and after partially eating our dessert, we requested a box to take the remainder with us. Waitress said they didn’t allow that. Eventually she begrudgingly provided a piece of aluminum foil. After visiting the cashier with our bill, paying for dinner and preparing to exit the restaurant, this same waitress stopped us and loudly informed us that I had to pay for our dinner! Kind of embarrassing and totally ridiculous since she was the one serving our table and had given us our check. Old restaurant with a reputation for good food, but really needs to upgrade or train waitstaff.
