Excellent staff. Wonderful displays and lots of fun. One of the most enjoyable museum experiences I have ever had. Hope to get back to Chincoteague with my grandsons. Can't say enough positive things. I learned a lot about the history of Chincoteague and the Eastern Shore. Please thank the staff. Tina Sties

“Great Museum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

This was our first visit to the Museum of Chincoteague. There is so much to see in this relatively small museum. A lot of history of the island and the eastern shore as well as pictures and artifacts. Adults and kids will enjoy this museum and the friendly folks who work there.

“New and improved Museum of Chinoteague”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

If you are a frequent visitor to Chincoteague Island, you will remember the old, dusty Oyster Museum on the way out to the beach. Only true fans of the Eastern Shore would stop in there more than once; filled with literally millions of oyster shells and old memorabilia of the glory days of the Eastern Shore, it ached for a do-over. The sparkly "new" Museum of Chincoteague is exactly that. A brilliantly updated little museum that concisely captures the history of the most significant barrier islands of Virginia, Chincoteague and Assasteague. Lovingly created displays of photographs and treasures as well as artifacts from the original families of these islands tell the stories of life as watermen on the edge of the Atlantic, with nature as the constant mistress of their fate. It is engaging for adults as well as children with a scavenger hunt that will keep everyones' attention throughout the whole museum and includes a table with touchable stuff for the very young. Misty and Stormy are current residents, the famous Chincoteague ponies memorialized by the children's classic books by Marguerite Henry. Kudos to the directors and staff for a wonderful place to visit when taking time off from the beach. A must see for all.

“Hours of operation”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

We had this place on our agenda for the day. We looked online for hours of operation but could not find it. We planned to stop in at 10am and then head to the refuge. We got there and found out it opened at 11am. Although disappointed we headed to the lighthouse which was fantastic. By the time we got back to the museum, we were too tired to go in. You need to think about hours of operation better.

“Excellent updated museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2012

This is a quaint little museum that is well worth visiting for such a small donation. It shows you how life was years ago on the island. The oystering exhibit was especially interesting to me. I loved the old video of the oyster packing house. I applaud the board of directors for getting this up and running.
