My girlfriend and I were looking for a neat boat tour. I was preparing to propose to my girlfriend and spoke with Captain Charlie about it. He was very accommodating and recommended some locations where I could do it. We had the boat to ourselves for the sunset cruise, which allowed for more one on one attention to questions and personalizing the trip. We left from the southern tip of Chincoteague and worked our way into the southern waterway. Almost immediately, Captain Charlie began telling us of some of the history of the island and pointed out several sites that would be great for photography. We saw several ospreys, which Charlie circled several times to ensure we had the best shot. We saw Wallops Island, and worked our way into Assateague Channel. He pointed out his personal clam/oyster claim, as well as pointing out that his family dates back to the days of the founding of Assateague Village, which they were the second family. To accommodate my proposal plan, Charlie turned around at the bridge to Assateague and we worked our way over to the southern tip of Assateague. Charlie originally had suggested dropping us off in the middle of the bay on a large sandbar, but due to an extremely high tide, he was able to drop us off at the most extreme end of Assateague, which was completely cut off from the rest of the island. We hunted to seashells, and I proposed in the light of the setting sun. After that we headed back to the dock and parted ways.
In summation, Captain Charlie and his wife helped make our dreams come true in an extreme way, and we are both very grateful. Thank you Chincoteague Cruises!
