Description: The Common Man Restaurant is located in Warren, Vermont, in the heart of Mad River Valley, between Lincoln Peak and Mount Ellen. Sited in a 19th century barn, the dining room is elegant in its simplicity. With hand-hewn beams framing an open hearth fireplace, the 100-seat restaurant is inviting and intimate. Since the original owners, the Orsini family, opened their doors in the 1960s, 3209 German Flats Road has been a popular place for locals, visitors, and skiers to gather for a quality Vermont dining experience. Now in its fourth generation of operation, the current owners, Chef Adam Longworth and Lorien Wroten, are working hard to re-energize this Vermont dining institution with small town hospitality and world class cuisine.

“Exceptional”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2012

As locals we have eaten here regularly over the years and never been disappointed. However last night we took friends visiting from California and experienced the truly amazing talents of the new Chef/Owner who is now starting to put his own stamp on this long-standing restaurant. We were all absolutely blown away by the incredible flavors and freshness of the dishes - the lobster salad and tuna tartar appetizers left us all speechless and then the entrees just took it up another level. A house-made local lamb sausage will remain a highlight for a very long time (probably until our next visit) and the roast poussin was tender to the point of melt in your mouth and superbly complemented by the various grain and vegetable accompaniments. Our friends could not believe they were in rural Vermont rather than downtown San Francisco or New York! The local insight is Chef Aaron trained under Alfred Portale at the famed Gotham Bar and Grill but he is clearly destined for major success as he takes the reins at the Common Man.

“New owners, great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2012

We ate here in December shortly after takeover by new owners and were frankly disappointed in almost every aspect. Came back for another try and wow, what a difference. Clearly, they are coming into their own! Food was really, really good. Specials, regular menu items, service, etc all really exceeded all our expectations. Very pleasant and efficient staff. Starters of ceviche and soft shell crab, beautifully presented and delicious. Main courses of lamb and halibut were great. And a special of the most maple-y ice cream ever, completed the meal. Strongly recommend!

“As Good as Ever - if not better!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2012

We have been to this restaurant many time over the last 8 years and have also recommended it to too literally hundreds of people.. Quality of food, service and ambiance have always been consistently high so we were somewhat apprehensive about our first visit since ownership had changed hands. NO NEED - everything was first class and portions were slightly larger which is not a bad thing when it came to the accompanying vegetables - I like a good portion of fresh vegetables with my entree. Without a doubt, not only the best restaurant in town, the best for miles.

“Have always loved this restaurant, and the new owners are maintaining the tradition of excellence.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2012

Reservations are usually needed. This is where we take guests, or go for special occasions, and we're never disappointed. The atmosphere is very nice, without being stuffy, and the service is friendly and efficient. We're glad the new owners have continued the Thursday night bistro menu.

“Great restaurant in the Mad River Valley”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

The Common Man, one of the better restaurants in the Mad River Valley has good food, and ambiance. The fireplace during the winter gives it a ski lodge feel. The Thursday specials are a good value. The friendly staff and good quality food make it a great place to go after a day of skiing or hiking.
