“The Magician”
Reviewed 13 May 2012

My wife and i just spent last night at this Holiday Inn.
My wife is a flight attendant and I (during 2 decades) spent 9-12 nights a month in hotels. Last night we both met the"Magician" of all front desk check-in people: Alex. He is the best either of us have ever seen. He was fast, efficient, honest and helpful. he was checking in 2 people for every one of his colleagues (who were also good too). He is truly a unique "Gem" and getting rarer every day.
These are the people who are the first line of defense for a hotel, but also the first line of assistance for customers. They can make or break a stay. With Alex, I felt the confidence he could fix almost any problem. If he was not able, I knew he had sincerely tried.
I hope his management knows how lucky they are to have people like him.

Room Tip: This is an older facility that went through a face-lift 2-4 years ago. Plumbing was not touched and...

They say that with real estate it is location, location, location. While the location of the Holiday Inn in Rutland is good the service they provided was excellent.

We spent over two weeks at this location on a business trip. From check in to check out the service provided set the standard that all hotel staff should live up to.

We were greeted properly, assigned rooms, questions answered, conference rooms ready, housekeeping and the service staff in the restaurant all exceeded expectations.

When one singles out individuals there is always others that deserve the same praise. However having said that the front desk manager Alex was typical of extending himself above and beyond as the others did also. Alex was friendly, courteous, professional and service oriented.

The shuttle drive Jeff was outstanding. His knowledge of the area and the way he imparted it to us each time we used the shuttle to the restaurants throughout town was excellent.

Thank you to all that were involved in our stay and making our conference successful

Stayed here for 10 nights while holding a course at this facility. The service was absolutely top-notch! The managers Lisa and Mary Jo knew who we were immediately at check-in.

The people working the desk at night (Alex and Meghan) provided immediate answers, prompt service, all while maintaining what were obviously genuine smiles.

Phyllis, who maintained our rooms, paid attention and knew our wants/needs within 2 nights. Anything special we needed was already there before we asked.

The hotel has a shuttle van that was always available for anyone who needed to go to dinner, shopping, etc. The drivers (Jeff and Roland) were always polite, knowledgeable, and efficient.

I've stayed in hotels literally all over the world. The service here was friendly, prompt, efficient, and so much more than I ever expected and rivals some of the better hotels throughout the world.

I will absolutely recommend this property to anyone coming to this area.

My boys and I stayed here this past weekend for a chess tournament. Great rate-89 per night, the first night was great. Jeff hooked us up and carried all of our luggage including a very heavy cooler up two flights of stairs. Check in was ok at the front desk, not sure who she was but kind of argued back and forth about priority member rules vs chess tourney room block rules. Neither here nor there, the customer is and was right in this case. Dinner was ok, the waitstaff were very nice for dinner and breakfast. The next morning at 3:30am on Sunday the fire alarm went off, what a nightmare! Lisa, the manager did give us half back on our room rate for Saturday night which was good. Jeff did recommend a great restaurant called Roots which I highly recommend. All in all this hotel is not bad, would I go out of my way to stay here probably not, but if it is a group event, then yes for the convenience factor.

Room Tip: there are only two floors and all the hallways smell of smoke, if you have heavy items, maybe reques...

We are members of the Priority Club thru Holiday Inn and since this was our third trip to Vermont to visit Castleton State College, we chose to stay here and check out another hotel in this area.

Check-in was a little tricky because their computer system was acting up, but it all got resolved. Room was clean, bathroom was clean and the place smelled good.

Breakfast buffet in the restaurant was free because we are Priority Members. They had hot pancakes, homefries, bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs. There was also hot oatmeal and fixings. Juice bar, danish, yogurt, and fresh fruit. It was one of the better breakfasts we have had supplied by the hotel

We would absolutely stay here again.

Room Tip: We were able to back into the parking spot next to our ground room and hand the bags thru the window...
