“Bit of history in Montpelier”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2012

My father's house in England was Queen Anne, and old houses are never spotlessly clean - bugs live in the woodwork. People who like modern chains like Hilton or Sheraton probably won't enjoy the Inn at Montpelier, because this place HAS character, whereas the chains don't. We found the staff courteous, things worked in our room (window was a bit stiff to open, but it's an OLD WINDOW, folks, so of course it's not perfect!), and the guest common area was extremely well-equipped, including wine-glasses and a corkscrew. Breakfast was elegantly served in one of the lovely downstairs rooms, and there is a beautiful pillared porch/veranda which must be one of the finest examples in Montpelier. The Inn has plenty of on-site parking, and is within easy walking distance of the Main St Bar and Grill, run by students from the New England Culinary Institute.

Room Tip: No lifts, so probably easier on ground-floor if you have suitcases ...

A bit pricy, but top-notch! Lots of food and shopping in walking distance. Friendly courteous staff!

We picked the Inn at Montpelier because of its good location and historic architecture. We were not disappointed. The inside is charming. There is a beautiful front staircase and two welcoming sitting rooms on the ground floor in which you can enjoy a morning coffee and read the newspaper. The staff was very friendly and the continental breakfast was set in a beautiful dining room at the front. Our second floor room in the main house was tastefully decorated. Each room is unique. The room was inviting and comfortable. We thought we got a good value for our money. We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Montpelier.

Stayed for 2 nights at the inn in Montpelier on our way from Boston to Montreal. The inn is in a great location, the service was fantastic, we could not fault the room, I must admit the room and the inn wont be for everyone, but it is a nice friendly quaint bed and breakfast which takes you back to how things used to be. Good size room, lovely on suite and really enjoyed the home made cookies that are there for you to help yourselves. Had a great time sitting on the big decking in the swinging chair having a couple of beers. Breakfast in the morning was filling and very good. Location is excellent – everything in the centre of Montpelier is less than a 5 minute walk away. Would definitely recommend this to other people as the inn was good and Montpelier was lovely and Vermont itself was awesome and fantastically picturesque.

Not worth the price of $232.00 for one night in room 24, the mid-sized room (bigger than the standard room). Problems: small shower head with little pressure, bed TOO soft (although it was a king sized bed), dead bugs found in room and bathroom, peeling ceiling in bathroom, decor nothing special, bathroom door that did not shut, nothing to put suitcase on & no hot breakfast.

The pluses: provision of cookies and umbrella, early check-in, nice central room.

Suggestions: spend some money on redecorating rooms and improve bathroom

Would not stay there again.

Urge travelers to read the reviews and plan ahead so you have more options than we did...

Room Tip: Room 24 was quiet--not sure if that was because no one else was there or because it had good insulat...
