My father's house in England was Queen Anne, and old houses are never spotlessly clean - bugs live in the woodwork. People who like modern chains like Hilton or Sheraton probably won't enjoy the Inn at Montpelier, because this place HAS character, whereas the chains don't. We found the staff courteous, things worked in our room (window was a bit stiff to open, but it's an OLD WINDOW, folks, so of course it's not perfect!), and the guest common area was extremely well-equipped, including wine-glasses and a corkscrew. Breakfast was elegantly served in one of the lovely downstairs rooms, and there is a beautiful pillared porch/veranda which must be one of the finest examples in Montpelier. The Inn has plenty of on-site parking, and is within easy walking distance of the Main St Bar and Grill, run by students from the New England Culinary Institute.
