On Sunday October 7,1918 we stopped at Montpelier, Vt for the night and looked for a room using the GPS in our car so we called the Econo Lodge booking the room--charge with tax was $224.40. Had we have seen the hotel first we would not have stayed there it looked run down and a very old hotel, We had come to see the leaves and expected the prices to be higher than normal. We checked into the room and it smelled like a wet moldy cornfield. The carpet was filthy, drywall chips all over and the pattern of the carpet was not visible. The drywall in the bathroom was not finished and there were gaps where we could see the wall under it. The tv did not work and they said they would be down to replace it right away--never showed up with tv so we had no weather report or news during the stay. There is no proper breakfast area--1 table and a couple of chairs such a small room that people are bumping into each other. (Not a good night sleep at all!!!!)
The staff seamed to not know what to do the next morning. We had 3 poeple to talk to and no one--NOT EVEN THE MANAGER--knew what to do. We asked for a little refund off the $200 because of the condition of the room and no tv. We were told they could not do that because once we were charged for the room there was nothing they could do---all we wanted was an I am sorry and maybe $40 back. The manager said we should not have been put in that room so why didn't she refund us something if that was so.
WE WILL NEVER STAY AT ANY OTHER ECONO LODGE AGAIN--WE WILL SLEEP IN OUR CAR!!!!
They said they would have to talk to the owner(actually he was standing right there) and we would get a call from him--it has been a month no call nothing.

Room tip: Do not stay here it is terrible.

I have stayed in many motels and hotels over the years and have never stayed in one as bad as this. Our room was dirty and dark. Paint was peeling off the walls. Wash cloth stuffed into hole over air conditioner. Windows looked out into a Hall which was also dark and dirty. My advise don’t stay there go somewhere else!!!

We checked in late around 1am and the front desk agent was ok. Guy was in shorts, but who cares..

The room was ok and bathroom seemed uncleaned with hairs behind the bathroom door and messy towels. The bathroom tiles seemed broken behind the door. I’ve attached some pics.

We were only there until 7am so don’t know about other things. Breakfast was ok but their juice only had water in it..we didn’t have time to complain as we were there to see fall colors and left early. The young girl) at the front desk during checkout had no knowledge of the surrounding areas and had no interest in talking to guests. She was busy on the phone with her BF or someone and we could see her hanging around with the guy in parking lot while we were entering directions in our gps..none of our business.

This motel had no redeeming features. The rooms are dark, airless and smell musty. It felt dirty but too dark to check. The window outlook is the passage and passing traffic so curtains need to be drawn for privacy.
The bed sagged and the base broken. Every time you moved it creeked.
The gentleman at the front desk may have been the owner, he was was totally indifferent to my complaints, he likely had heard it all before.
At breakfast everyone seemed cheerless, they probably had a shocking night too.
Don't stay here, the photo's on the internet don't reflect it's true character.

Well, I should have paid more attention to the reviews!. While the beds and the towels seemed Ok the bathroom wasn't spick and span and the room had not been dusted or cleaned properly in a long time. Scuffed paintwork, peeling wallpaper, no plate in the microwave. Noisy machine vibration throughout the night, airless (the hotel rooms open onto an indoor gallery). Non existent wifi service. And the breakfast -a very poor quality offering, in a space under the main stairs. Unappealing and cheerless. Not even any flowers outside. A very poor image of American hospitality.

Room tip: Don't make a booking - go elsewhere !
