Recently stayed two nights here on a bus trip through New England states. Staff was outstanding. The property is a little run down but they are trying very hard to update. They met our bus and greeted us inside with pie, cookies and hot cider. They have a ping pong table and books in a nice common area with a TV. Rooms are very nice and roomy and clean.

The rooms are big, nice and clean. Beds are comfortable and new. Personal is really friendly and helpfully, she gave us good tips for the next day. Breakfast was good, could have a little bit more choice. Pool is still closed, they have to fix the roof.

The front desk personnel were not overly friendly, we were particularly offended by the
several posted notices of possibly being "fined" ($250.00) for such as smoking in the rooms, (we are not smokers); at breakfast a warning was posted of potentially being "fined" ($250.00) for burning toast if we set off the smoke alarm. We felt somewhat uneasy due to this and will not return. The location of the inn is excellent, approximately equidistant to Rutland and Killington, and overall the room was quiet and pleasant.

The hotel is okay. But...I had a room on the side facing the road and I couldn't sleep because of the noise. Also, it was hot in the room. The AC apparently doesn't work when the temperature goes below 70 or so, the problem is that I couldn't sleep with the window open because of the road noise. The place needs some TLC. There is a lot of wear and tear that needs to be addressed. The bathtub needs fresh calk. There is a lot of chipped paint, the carpet is worn, etc. Also, the carpet on the stairs is dangerous because of the busy pattern. It is hard to see the end of each step. The pool was freezing and the hot tub was so so. The only nice thing is that they would build a fire outside upon request.

Room tip: Take a room on the side away from the road

We selected this property because of a great deal on the room and were well pleased with our choice. The Cortina Inn is about half way between Rutland and Killington, and because it is out of the fairly populated areas it was reasonably quiet and peaceful. It was just a 10 minute drive into Rutland for meals and supplies, and the location in central Vermont made access to the sites around the state quick and easy. The included breakfast was good, and there were plenty of places to just lounge around and enjoy the company of family and guests.

Room tip: Rooms on the ground floor facing the parking lot have a separate door outside - makes for easier loading and unloading of luggage.
