Never, ever have we seen a hotel, no less a resort, with so many dogs running about with little to no supervision and no oversight by hotel staff. We left our pets home hopping to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in a stress free environment. No chance here as dogs are moving about throughout the common areas on long leashes and barking constantly. That was the case in the lobby, library, porches and even the 3rd floor where pets are allegedly prohibited. As I was walking through the library, a dog on an expandable leash, barked and growled at me then bit me on the leg with little concern from its owner. That made for a happy anniversary dinner that night. Not. Good thing I was wearing long pants. It could have really been nasty to have that happen to a child in shorts. The next morning, a different dog being carried around the hotel while barking and growling at guests, lunged at me when the owner put it down as he approached the elevator where I was waiting. I escaped that attack. Reports to several staff resulted in apologies but nothing else. I am not exaggerating to report how excessive this situation is. Allowing dogs in a room is one thing. Allowing them full access to common areas is annoying AND dangerous. Management needs to revisit their policy on that and this notice can serve as evidence of a pre existing condition to enhance a lawsuit filed by the next person bitten by an out of control dog. Guests without dogs should have equal consideration to those with dogs.

Room Tip: This is what our view was on the odd numbered side of the hotel.

Dear Marty,

Thank you for choosing Kimpton Taconic Hotel for your recent trip to Manchester, VT. We appreciate the time you have taken to share your experience with us and fellow TripAdvisor users. I apologize that your experience was not to satisfaction. We are a pet friendly hotel and our expectations, like yours , is that everyone, human, child and pet behaves accordingly. We do our best to make sure that everyone is comfortable and treated fairly. Unfortunately we cannot control the actions of an adult, human or pet. If things get out of hand we do get involved and address the situation. I apologize you were bothered by other guests pets and that one growled and nipped you. Again, most of our guests know how to behave including their pets and children. I am so sorry this happened during your 25th anniversary. I too would have been disappointed. The third floor is not a pet free floor as we have a few rooms on this floor that do allow pets. The majority of the 3rd floor does have pet free rooms.

We wish you both the best and thank you for choosing us.

Warmest Regards,

John Burnham

Once again the Taconic delivers on all fronts. Extremely comfortable suite (601) and excellent service with a friendly smile. The location can’t be beat as it’s close to shopping, hiking and great dining. We had breakfast and dinner several days at The Copper Grouse and all meals were excellent! We hope to be back before next summer!

Lovely. Everyone was very helpful and this hotel offered the quaint getaway I was looking for. Loved the front porch, social hour, and loved that just as I was craving a little afternoon boost, they set out iced cofeee and tea. Lovely spot, I'm now a loyal Kimpton fan. It's a wonderful experience at a reasonable price. As a side note, I enjoyed having a nice restaurant on site.

Relaxing, sweet, kind and attentive staff, fabulous dinner, nourishing breakfasts, comfy room, relaxing yard with free happy hour wine and snack, free bikes available, Jenn at the front desk who steered us toward our hikes and river runner kayak trip....I would go back and recommend you visit for several days and chill in the beauty of Vermont.

The Kimpton Taconic hotel newly built in 2015 is located on Main St in beautiful, historic and scenic Manchester, nestled between the Taconic and Green mountains. Elegant and refined excellence are two descriptors that immediately come to mind. Impeccably kept and maintained. One of the positive differentiating factors was that the staff were very friendly, helpful and went out of their way to help you. Stayed for 3 nights and we were upgraded to room with a view of the mountains plus fireplace. Always a nice touch and certainly appreciated. Large, spacious tastefully decorated and clean rooms. Very comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom with large great shower. There is a fridge/mini bar in room with in room safe. There is no coffee maker in room, but available in the lobby which has comfy chairs. Every room comes with yoga mat, walking stick and trek map. Very nice lap pool and comfortable lounge chairs. Pet/dog friendly. In room spa services available. Hotel features a beautiful Charleston like porch where you can either have a meal or read or just watch the world go by. A bit noisy on the front porch as main road is right there. Be aware there is a daily resort fee which covers Wifi, parking and other amenities. Excellent location, close to outlet stores, golf, shopping and several excellent restaurants. Great location for day trips, biking, walking trails with Bromley and Stratton ski areas nearby. Equinox Golf course is close by and a very nice mountain course. The hotel apparently also has a unique partnership with the Manchester country club. Ask for details.

Copper grouse restaurant is on sight which is very good. Burger was excellent, Locavore (Charcuterie) plate was excellent, lots of wonderful local cheese but a bit light on the meats. Cauliflower gratin and Maple plank salmon were delicious. There are several other excellent restaurants nearby (Silver fork a superb restaurant is just down the street across the street from Orvis flagship store, Ye Olde Tavern also excellent. Reservations recommended for both.)

Overall, enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing stay in a refined elegant setting in scenic Manchester. Great value for the money. I would highly recommend and would definitely come again
