My girlfriend and I signed up for the BackRoad Discovery Tour. The tour was one of the highlights of our trip. This was our first time to Vermont and Sharon was wonderful. We came in October and the foliage was breathtaking. She took us all over Manchester and we left with a good sense of what Vermont was all about. We can't thank her enough. She was so informative and well spoken. It is a must do experience.

Believe me, Manchester can be pretty quiet during the week in December, especially if you don't ski. My husband and I were spending a couple of days at the Taconic Hotel, and the hotel attempted to help us find things to do via email prior to our arrival. They recommended Backroad Discovery.

We like these kinds of tours anyway, as they basically are like visiting an area with a friend. And Sharon really fits that bill. As she took us from the breathtaking (odd adjective for it, but true) abandoned quarry, the cutting board factory redolent of sawdust and wood, the-wealthy-pay-to-keep-it-dirt Overlook Drive, to Dorset and through the lovely Dorset Inn, we talked not just about Vermont history and culture but ourselves. Sharon evinced a real interest in us which was very nice. We chatted like old friends as we continued on past mansions and over hill and snowy dale, on to Arlington and the charming covered bridge (we'd found a few, but I don't think we would have stumbled across this one on our own) and the Sugar Shack - where else can you find a sugarbush and an art museum in one enterprise? Sharon is also very helpful with information and suggestions about other things to do.

There are various tours and I hope we can sometime take another in another season and enjoy Sharon's company while we see yet more local points of interest. Backroad Discovery is one of the few activities open all year in Manchester so a no-brainer to do in the winter, and of course in the fall for the foliage - but no matter what time of year, avail yourself of their experience. It's well worth it.

My fiancé and I wanted to see the real Vermont and learn about its history and witness the Vermont October foliage and learn about local hidden gems. Dick and Sharon O'Connor were our guides; Dick in the morning for a historical tour of Bennington where we learned about Ethan Allen and how Vermont became a state, and observation of local architecture and covered bridges. Sharon in the afternoon for what she described as a more "fluffy" tour of foliage, marble quarries, pottery shops, kitchen stores, and maple syrup production farms, topped off by feeding llamas apple slices! Both had excellent recommendations for local restaurants and shopping. Sharon made a point of knowing a bit about of each of her passengers before the tour started, and she engaged each of us about our homes and interests and got the group to learn about each other and engage in fun discussions as the tour progressed. We highly recommend these tours to folks visiting Vermont for the first time.

Thanks Sharon for a wonderful tour. It was informative and the locations you took us to were breathtaking. Loved the quarry and the alpaca stops. Also enjoyed learning about Vermont being its own country! You also left us enough time for the passengers to chat which was really fun. An overall enjoyable day and we took some great pictures.
