“Mediocre hotel, great location”
Reviewed 2 January 2012

I stayed here with two friends over New Year's weekend 2011/2012. The highlight of the Cascades Lodge is its location - across from the base of Killington mountain (it's walking distance but shuttles are available), and most of the popular restaurants are down the road about a mile. Everything else about the Cascades Lodge is mediocre, especially given the considerable cost. The decor and furnishings are incredibly dull and dated (there were two bowls of fake flowers at the reception area that were covered with dust), and although our room was spacious and clean, the linens were thread bare and the beds were rock hard. The free breakfast was a significant let down - the hot items were mostly inedible, so we stuck to cereal and toast. Note: This place seemed very geared towards families with young kids.

It is our fourth year of staying at Cascases Lodge. From the very first time we stayed here we were made to feel very welcome by Pia and her team.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. Free wi-fi, swimming pool and hot tub. A nice bar area and lounge with comfy sofas!

Great location - walking distance to Snowshed, or there is a regular shuttle bus.

We booked a mid-week ski and stay package through Killington in late January 2011. We chose Cascades Lodge as it appeared that they had everything that we were looking for. We wanted a hot tub, an on-site restaurant / pub and a lounge with a fireplace. On our first day we drove directly to the mountain and skiied prior to checking in. The temperature was 6 below zero but we were prepared and had a great day. After skiing we went to check in. The location is perfect as it is about 200 yards from the lodge and lifts. We got a room on the lower level. The room had two full size beds, a refrigerator, a small table with two chairs and a TV. It was somewhat rustic with a sliding glass door and you could hear people walking around upstairs. We went to the hot tub and indoor pool, which weren't bad. They were clean and after a day of skiing felt great. After showering we headed down to the pub only to find out that they only have a bartender on weekends. The guy at check-in offered to pour us a beer, which he did but we were somewhat dissappointed that the pub wasn't going to be open during our stay. The story was the same for the restaurant (only open on weekends) except for breakfast. After going out for dinner we retired to our room. The room was pretty cold and there wasn't any way to adjust the heat. We are used to the cold and keep our house at 60 degrees at night in the winter but this was cold. the temp. outside got down to about 20 below and we ended up stacking our bags in front of the sliding glass door and combining all of the covers from both beds onto one to keep warm. When we got up in the morning there was snow inside the room by the sliding door and it was closed. We mentioned it to the lady at the desk in the morning and she said we should have called. They have space heaters, and she brought one to our room. That did the trick and the rest of trip was enjoyable.
In summary the good things were the location, the hot tub, the breakfast. The bad things were rustic accomodations and not all advertised ammenities were open during the week.

Room Tip: Chose upper floor and if you have a problem call the desk.

From the moment you first step through the door at the Cascades you feel like you have arrived back at home. I stayed here in April for a weeks skiing towards the end of the season and it was perfect base. Nothing is too difficult for the hotel staff who make a real effort to personally look after every single person staying at the lodge.
The rooms are so spacious with every home comfort you could possibly want and in pristine condition but still with a homely feel. I was lucky enough to have a mountain view with a balcony and it was stunning.
After a hard days skiing (or walking/biking in the summer) the lovely pool is a very welcome end to an afternoon and the hot tub really did ease the aches and pains before sitting down to a superb evening meal in the hotel restaurant. The lounge is also well equipped and a great place to relax with other guests in the evening and the adjoining bar is extremely well stocked and very reasonably priced.
I would definately recommend the Cascades to anyone visiting Killington or this part of Vermont and I will most definately be headin back over in the future and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids ages 10, 7 & 5) stayed here for a weekend ski getaway. My husband and I had stayed at Cascades on our own a few months prior, so we knew what to expect. Since we are 5 people, we were given a room on the lower level with a trundle bed. Since we'd stayed upstairs before, I was concerned the lower level room would be musty, but it was absolutely fine. The decor is nothing fancy, but the beds are relatively comfortable, the shower is hot and strong, and everything was extremely clean. There is a small fridge (good for storing picnic supplies), coffee-maker and hairdryer in the room. The room itself was neither too spacious nor too small, but it was comfortable enough. If all you want is a clean, cozy place to crash after a hard day of skiing, the Cascades fits the bill.

The kids loved the pool and hot tub.It is small and a bit dated but fun. In contrast to another recent review, we were never questioned by the staff...in fact, no staff member ever came into the pool area when we were there. There is a pretty strong smell of chlorine/bleach in the corridor near the pool area, but it wasn't bothersome. Towels were always available at the front desk, and the staff was friendly and pleasant.

The breakfast is quite good. What it lacks in quality (nothing terrible - just slightly chewy waffles on the days we were there) it makes up for in sheer abundance. Eggs, pancakes, french toast, juice, bagels, english muffins, oatmeal, cold cereal and coffee/tea/hot chocolate...there is something for everyone and it is a great way to load up on calories before a long day on the slopes. The fact that it is included in the room rate sets this lodge apart from others in my opinion, especially for families with kids who can eat their weight before heading out to the mountain.

There is a small bar/lounge area with a big flat screen TV, fireplace and pool table. We relaxed over a beer while the kids played pool and watched TV. Nice not to have to leave the premises if you don't want to, but if you do there are shuttle buses available to take you around to the various area restaurants.

We booked this lodge on a "snow blind" deal that included lift tickets...we were pretty sure we were getting the Cascades and were very pleased when we saw we were right. The location - 2 minutes from Snowshed - is superb.

We tend to go back and forth between condo and lodge accommodations when we visit Killington, but when we stay in a lodge, the Cascades is a great choice. We would definitely stay there again.
